Roger Keilig Obituary

HOPKINTON - Roger B. Keilig of Hopkinton passed away in the early morning of October 13, 2018 after living with cancer for many years. He was born on January 18, 1956 to Richard H. Keilig, Sr. and Martha Margaret (Griffith) Keilig in Nashua, NH.

Roger grew up in the Monadnock region of NH. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and then continued his education at Carnegie Mellon University, receiving a graduate degree in Civil Engineering. Moving back to New Hampshire, he worked at several civil and environmental engineering firms before finishing his career with the NHDOT, District 2. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Roger was an active member of the First Congregational Church, UCC of Hopkinton, serving on both the Board of Deacons and Trustees. He especially enjoyed organizing the annual Easter Breakfast which followed the ecumenical sunrise service.

Roger was a charter member of the Hopkinton Rotary Club. While a member, he was a host dad for numerous exchange students, a role he enjoyed. Roger loved all things that brought him outdoors, a love he shared with his children. He was a lifelong beekeeper and a careful tree farmer. Roger was also an avid Boston sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carolyn (Hofacker) Keilig, and his three children, Pamela, Robert and Susanna, all of Hopkinton; a sister Margaret Joyce Keilig of Wilton, NH, a brother Richard H. Keilig, Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Centerville, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on October 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holt Woodbury Funeral Home, 19 Hall Ave., Henniker, NH.

A Memorial Service will be held on October 19 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, 1548 Hopkinton Road, Hopkinton, NH.

I had the pleasure of working with Roger on numerous occasions beginning over a decade ago when he was at HTE Northeast and then again as a fellow DOT colleague. He was always warm, gracious and genuine - and a good engineer to boot. Heartfelt regards to his family. God Bless.

My prayers go out to the Keilig family. I met Roger through our involvement in the American Society of Civil Engineers in the early 1980's and was glad to reconnect when he joined the DOT. I was not aware that he was a fellow alum of the WPI Plan. God Bless.

I only worked with Roger for a short period of time but it was enough time to know that he was a kind, humorous, gentleman who enjoyed talking about his heritage. He will be missed around the office. Sympathies to you all.
