Thomas Tenda Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Tenda, 89, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, after spending his final week in the care of the Community Hospice House, with his family close at heart.

Born on February 12, 1936, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Tom grew up with the values of hard work, discipline, and faith. He was the son of the late John Tenda and Anna (Sevick) Tenda, and the brother of Patty Peacock, Sandra Samuels, and the late William "Bill" Tenda.

After high school, Tom joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for 20 years. His military service shaped him into the steadfast, dependable man his family would always admire.

Following his military career, Tom and his beloved wife, Jane, settled in Merrimack, New Hampshire, where they raised seven children: Kathy (Clegg, late husband Bruce), Janice (Denton, Mark), Tommy Jr. (Linda), Sharon, Bill, Jimmy (Heather), and Debbie (Lechner, Rich).

Tom went on to work for the United States Postal Service in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was known for his dedication, reliability, and pride in a job well done.

Golf was a lifelong passion for Tom. Over 65 years, he played three to four times a week and once carried a 3-4 handicap. Though he never achieved a hole-in-one, the game was never about perfection-it was about the friendships, the enjoyment of the outdoors, and the peace it brought him.

Later in life, Tom found joy in gardening, especially growing his own vegetables. His gardens became a source of peace and satisfaction, a simple joy he enjoyed in later years.

At home, Tom was a strong, quiet presence who believed in structure, respect, and doing what was right. Though he rarely showed emotion outwardly, his family always felt his deep love through his steady guidance. His children treasure the lessons he taught by example: discipline, honesty, humility, and perseverance.

Tom's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, whose compassionate staff and volunteers provided exceptional care during his final week. Their kindness and devotion brought immense comfort to Tom and his family.

Tom leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and quiet strength. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jane, their seven children (and their spouses), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory forever.

Visitation hours will be held at the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack on Monday, November 17, 2025 from 5 - 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 16 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack on Tuesday, November 18th at 9:30 AM. Burial will be held privately at the NH Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Thomas ("Tom") Tenda be made to the Community Hospice House of Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054, Attn: Development, or online at www.hhhc.org

Our deepest heart felt sympathy and condolences are sent to the Tenda families. Tom was a great guy and golfer. I remember playing in many golf tournaments with Tom. My friends would ask me "Who are you playing the tournament with?" and when I told them Tom Tenda, they would always say he is a great guy and golfer. I will never forget those days. Tom was a wonderful happy guy who always wore a smile.
Tom, you will be greatly missed but never, ever forgotten. May you rest in peace in the great golf course in the sky.

I am so sad to hear about the passing of my dear friend and greatest neighbor Tom. Yet knowing how wonderful and faithful Tom was, I am comforted to know he is at home in the arms of Our Savior Jesus Christ. Tom and his family are, and forever will be, considered a part of our family. To Jane, we love you and may you have the Lord's comfort at this time. God bless you Jane. To Debbie, you will always be my little blond neighbor next door. And to Kathy, Janice, Sharon, Tommy, Billy and Jimmy, God bless you as you live your lives with the blessed memory of the greatest dad you could have ever had. I will pray for you all.

Grief is hard, but this family has so many special memories that will help us cope. Dad was a golf lover! I remember fondly the times Tommy and I walked Intervale with Dad during club championships! Dad was so proud, and of course, he'll always be memorialized as a "Champ" on their walls, many years, by the way! I always enjoyed our conversations! Dad will be missed!

Dick and I are sad to learn of Tom’s passing. We know how difficult the last several years have been for all of you. We remember Tom especially from church. Always with a smile and wave. Expect he will finally achieve his “hole n one” in Heaven.
