It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Timothy Dorrance Powers, 38, on Sunday, May 1, 2022, with his family by his side. Timothy is now in the arms of God with his Nana, Grandpa, and Uncle.
Timothy was born on Oct. 18, 1983, at Loring AFB, Maine. He spent his early years growing up in Center Barnstead, N.H., and then moved to Antioch, Calif., where he graduated from Deer Valley High School in 2002. He studied politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2002-2004 and returned to New Hampshire to complete his degree at Saint Anselm College in Manchester. While attending college, Timothy discovered that a profession in the airline industry would support two of his passions: traveling the world and helping others. His career started in 2005 with a part-time position at Comair, and in 2011, Timothy accepted a position at JetBlue Airways, which ultimately brought him to Orlando, Fla., as an in-flight instructor.
An enthusiastic and curious traveler, Timothy took every opportunity to explore the world and embrace all it had to offer. He visited over 40 countries in 15 exciting years. Prior to each journey, it was important to Timothy that he learned about each country's background and culture. This allowed Timothy to fully immerse himself and respectfully celebrate in their traditions. Each destination created a remarkable story and experience for Timothy.
Timothy also had a strong dedication towards helping others. At JetBlue, he took pride in mentoring his peers and colleagues. As an avid runner, he supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for several races. Additionally, while receiving his own cancer treatment, Timothy bravely volunteered to participate in additional testing for clinical trials with the hope of discovering a cure for cancer. Timothy expressed to many, "If this trial doesn't help me, maybe it will help others."
Timothy had a gentle, pure soul and he left his mark on everyone he met. Timothy was young at heart and always positive, caring, and kind. He had an immense passion for life and lived it to its fullest. Timothy stands in our hearts as a reminder of strength, perseverance, love, and compassion. His infectious laugh and sense of humor will be greatly missed by us all.
Timothy was greatly devoted to his family. He is survived by the following: his parents, Timothy A. and Diana Tobias Powers; his brother, Andrew A. Powers and Andrew's wife, Kate Powers; his brother, Austin Roger Powers and Austin's wife, Kelsey Edelmann; his soon-to-be nephew and niece; his maternal grandmother, Maria C. Tobias; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins of New England and Texas. Timothy also leaves his fur golden puppy, Summer Tyme, who he adored and loved with all his heart.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at the Knight Funeral Home, 903 Hartford Ave., White River Junction, VT 05001. A celebration of life will follow on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 2 p.m. at the same location (a streaming option will also be available). Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Norwich, Vt.
