William Spencer Obituary

It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of William F. Spencer, affectionately known as "Bill," on April 16, 2024, due to complications from surgery for pancreatic cancer. Born in Boston, MA, on March 11, 1936, to Sarah (Long) and Walter Spencer, Bill spent his early years in Quincy, MA. He graduated from North Quincy High School in 1953 and earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1958. Following graduation, he served in the Army Reserve from 1959 to 1961. Bill dedicated 34 years to New England Telephone, and retired in 1991 to begin his second career as a competitive runner, youth running coach, and Litchfield Budget Committee member/chairperson.

Bill leaves behind his loving family: Pat (Maciolek), his wife of 46 years; daughter, Michele (William); son, Chris (Amy); daughter, Debby (Peter); grandchildren Sarah, Michael, Aidan, Daniel, Ella, Simon, and Samuel; many nieces and nephews; and grand-pups Leila, Samson, and Murphy. He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter Spencer, Katherine Downey, and Marie Hagelston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Parish, 216 East Dunstable Rd. In Nashua, NH on May 2nd at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor would be welcome to an organization that he tirelessly supported both physically and financially: Bishop Guertin High School at https://www.bghs.org/giving/make-a-gift/

I remember him and his wife teaching my Sunday school class at St John's evangelist church. Wonderful people and a pillar in the Litchfield community. Always used to see him jogging on the Albuquerque trail I walked. Stephanie

Dear Pat & family,
My sincere condolences to all of you after learning of Bill's passing. I have fond memories of working with Bill during our days in the same Telco office and years later occasionally seeing each other around town in Litchfield. My your memories of family times together over the years help you through this present time of sadness.

Pat and Deb, I am so sorry Bill has left us. He was a great boss, mainly because he left me alone to do my job. We each knew where the other was when business dictated we talk. And we got along well. I think his finest telco days were when he ran the planning group. At that time I was building the major projects which came from that group, and I was in closer contact with him and his team than when he ran our group. A fine example of a man all of his days.
