Amelie Gibson-Davis Obituary

MECHANICSBURG - On August 21, 1975, in London, Ohio, Lewis Davis, of Indiana, and Rebecca Davis (Gibson), of Mechanicsburg, received the first of their three blessings, their daughter, Amelie "Amy" Suzanne Gibson-Davis.

The most important things in Amy's life were her nephew Evan and Emmett, niece Graycen, and her family. She loved to go to "Grandma's Christmas Party" and being with her friends and family. Amy graduated from Mechanicsburg High School and spent two summers at Kenyon College learning, then mentoring others to teach the D.A.R.E. program. She was the High School D.A.R.E. spokesperson for Champaign County. Amy graduated a member of the National Honor Society and was the first Mechanicsburg and state student to reach the top level of the "Power of One" national program. Amy attended the Rio Grande College where she was a member of the Lambda Omicron PSI Sorority, where she made many lifelong friends, as she did as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She was a published member of the National Poets Society. Amy worked at the Columbus Center for Human Services, Park West Division, where she developed a love of caring for developmentally challenged individuals. At the time of her death she worked with C.R.S.I.

Amy underwent major surgery on March 8, 2016 and suffered complications of a rare blood clotting disorder. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 31, 2016, with her parents by her side.

Amy leaves behind her parents; brother, Ethan (Shayna) Davis, of Springfield; nephews, Evan and Emmett Davis; niece, Graycen "Jo Jo" Davis; maternal grandmother, Myrna Gibson; uncles, Corky (Madelyn), Randy (Kimberly), Roger (Tammy) Gibson, all of Mechanicsburg; aunt and uncles Randy and Dean Davis and Linda Cushman, all of New Hampshire; and cousins, Stephanie George, Derrick Gibson, Mindy Gibson, Shad Conley, Michael (Sara) Gibson and Abby (Cody) Gibson, Brandon Cushman, Eugene, Talli, Randi Leigh, Aprel, and Aaron Davis.

Amy will be welcomed to heaven by her brother, Benjamin Davis; maternal grandfather, Reb "Jack" Gibson, formerly of Mechanicsburg; paternal grandparents, Harold and Isabelle Davis, formerly of New Hampshire.

The book of her life, although only 40 pages, was a privilege to be a character in. Most especially if you were a friend. To be loved and cared for by Amy was a joy unlike any other.

A gathering of friends and family is being held on Monday, April 4, 2016 from noon to 2 p.m. at the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD, & VERNON funeral home in Mechanicsburg. The funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. following the gathering with Brother Harold Van Hoose officiating, at the funeral home.

The family of Amy would like to thank Cincinnati University Hospital, especially Dr. Michael Knight, the hematology staff, and nursing staff of the Neuro ICU Unit.
