ST. PARIS – Eldon Luttrell, 73 of St. Paris, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025.
Eldon was born on Jan. 9, 1952 in Springfield, Ohio, to the late Bud and Audra (Phares) Luttrell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary (Herrick) Luttrell; children Erin (Trent) Elliott, Jesse (Rebecca Grubb) Luttrell, Polly Luttrell (Jordan Harris), and Alix (Marc) Lanza; grandchildren Isaac, Grace, Matthew, Josephine, Helena, Ishmael, Ada, and soon-to-be-born Baby Lanza; siblings Beverly (John) McKinney, Herb Luttrell, and Sharon Luttrell; as well as 16 nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne (Teresa) Luttrell.
Eldon loved his family deeply and doted on his grandchildren, who referred to him as "Grampy" or "Grumpa." He loved spending time with his family in the great outdoors, especially Lake Superior, Michigan. An avid golfer and fan of Buckeye and Bengal football, Eldon loved to cheer and debate. He knew no strangers, conversing with anyone about any topic.
Eldon was hired as a lineman by Conrail's Penn Central Signal gang in the summer of 1974. He passed his electronic service exam and served as an Electronic Signal Specialist at Buckeye Yard in Columbus, Ohio. He took an active interest in the union, becoming a local representative before advancing to General Chairman of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen Local 52. Eldon served on local and national collective bargaining and negotiating committees to improve the lives and working conditions of fellow union members. He retired in 2014.
He served his community with the Champaign County Democratic Party, as a poll worker, and on the Jackson Township Zoning Board.
A celebration of life will be held on Sept. 27 from 4-6 p.m. at Lakeland Golf Course, St. Paris, Ohio.
