Eleanor Dibert Obituary

URBANA - Eleanor Dibert, 85, of Urbana, Ohio died after a short bout with pancreatic cancer. She passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on Aug. 12, 2021.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1934 in Urbana, Ohio, the daughter of Alice and Robert Couchman. Eleanor graduated from Concord High School where she played softball and was a cheerleader while attending there. She snow-skied in her 60s and early 70s and para-sailed in her 60s. She lived most of her life in Champaign County. She married the love of her life, Gene, on June 24, 1956 and they enjoyed 59 years of blissful marriage. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. She had worked at the Grimes Manufacturing Company, H & R Block and eventually retired from Champaign County Landmark in 1997. She was very active and independent throughout her life. She volunteered at the Champaign Family YMCA where she taught water aerobics.

She was also active in Martha's Circle at the United Methodist Church and the TWIG organization at Mercy Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with family and eating out with her friends. She also enjoyed knitting, watching sporting events and various crafts. She is survived by her two children, Stephanie (Kym) Moore of Urbana and Dr. Steven (Jocelyn) Dibert of Gastonia, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Andrew Moore of Centerville, Ohio, Emily (John) O'Bryan of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, Karia Dibert of Chicago, Illinois and Kassi Dibert of Raleigh, North Carolina; and one great grandchild, Eleanor O'Bryan of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; and two siblings, James Couchman of Urbana and Shirley Henry of Rosewood, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Dibert, her parents, a sister Patricia McIntire and a brother Richard Couchman.

In light of the presence of the coronavirus variant, there was not a viewing and a private service was held graveside. Funeral services were provided by the WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Memorial contributions to honor Eleanor can be made to the Champaign County YMCA, P.O. Box, 191 Community Drive, Urbana, Ohio, 43078.

Dear Friends,
We will pray for y´all to receive comfort and peace from the Lord. Your mother was so kind to me while we worked in the same room at landmark. She was passionate about all her family and wanted to help provide for her son to get a doctor degree. She spoke kindly of my father in law Pastor Ray Kaffenbarger. May you look to Jesus during this sadness.
With love, Dr. Dan and Janet Kaffenbarger

May God bless all of Eleanor's family and friends at this difficult time. She and Gene were always welcoming and encouraging to me. They opened their home to all of us that ran the neighborhood and had school projects. Always a positive inspiration to us as we invaded their home for drinks and rest as we played throughout the neighborhood. Thanks for being you Eleanor and inviting us in, you will be missed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I knew Eleanor from Twig and we had happy discussions of people we knew in common. Eleanor was just a lovely person.
