URBANA - Gary A. Shafer, age 60, of Urbana, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 31, 2017 at his home. He was born on May 6, 1956 in Champaign County, Ohio to the late Paul J. and Rosaland J. (Blake) Shafer. In addition to his father, Gary is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer J. Shafer. Gary is survived by his mother, Rosaland; his son, Jackson R. (Terri) Shafer; grandchildren, Taylor, Nathan, Andrew, Paige, Brystol, Shaden, and Raylind; great-grandchild, Jayden. Gary also leaves behind his brothers, Terry L. (Dorene) Shafer and Rusty S. Shafer; cousins that were like his brothers, Ed Shafer and Darrin Shafer; as well as the mother of his children; and though they recently divorced, his wife of 42 years, Robyn Shafer. Gary loved hunting, collecting Indian artifacts and studying American history. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME, Urbana from 2 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 5 p.m. Condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.walterfunerals.com
