SPRINGFIELD – Helen L. (Baker) Strayer, age 93 of Springfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 19, 2024, joining her husband Robert E. Sr., sons Robert E. Jr., and Dennis R., brother Simon Homer Baker and parents Simon F. and Geneva (Bair) Baker.
She was born March 5, 1931 in Urbana, Ohio. Helen was retired from Community Hospital in Springfield. Helen was involved in Boy Scouting for over 40 years, from Den Leader up to liaison for the Troop at Northridge United Methodist Church. During her 40 years of service, she earned the Silver Beaver Award for her service to Boy Scouts of America. Helen was a charter member of the Northridge United Methodist Church.
Helen married Robert Edward Strayer on Feb. 2, 1953 in Dover, Delaware. Helen is survived by her children Connie Shaffer, Roberta (Craig) Wilson, Floyd (Angie), and 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandkids, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and good friend-neighbor adopted son Jerry Hamilton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 27 at Northridge United Methodist Church from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28 beginning at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Karen Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America. Arrangements entrusted to the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME. Condolences may be shared with Helen's family at www.jkzfh.com.
