URBANA – Lois Ann (Loudenback) Smith "Grandma L," 96 of Kennard, Ohio, passed away on Jan. 30, 2026 in her home, surrounded by her loving family. God got a beautiful Angel who will truly be missed, who touched a lot of lives in her lifetime with great memories!
Lois was born in Urbana, Ohio, on June 22, 1929 to the late Edgar & Nora (Coppock) Loudenback and would go on to graduate from the 1947 class of Westville High School.
On Sept. 12, 1948, she would marry Richard Eugene "Gene" Smith, who preceded her in death on March 10, 2005 and with whom she spent 57 blissful years of marriage together.
Lois, "Mom," "Grandma L," or "Aunt Lois," as she was affectionately known, will truly be missed by many! She was a great cook and would feed anyone who worked on the farm for Gene, for church gatherings, and for reunions. Always the loving caretaker, she would not let anyone leave unless she fed you first.
After high school, Lois worked at Citizens Bank in Urbana, Ohio, and would meet Gene at a 4-H meeting in 1947 and eventually get married in September of 1948. Gene was a dairy farmer and Lois was a homemaker. She taught Sunday School for many years at the United Methodist Church in Kingscreek, Ohio, and was also a faithful member of the Mount Carmel Friends Church in Kennard, Ohio. In her free time, she was a 4-H advisor, member of 5-H club, quilt club, & card club.
Always looking to lend a helping hand, they enjoyed donating to several organizations throughout their years of marriage, including Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, Boys Town, Disabled Veterans & the church. Most of all, however, she was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them all at birthday parties, the fair, and on the farm.
Lois is survived by her children, Denise (Jack) Morris, Dow (Kathy) Smith and Diane Yoder; eight grandchildren, Julie (Andy) Maurice, Nicholas (Abby) Smith, Stephanie (Justin) Dagger, Ashlee Smith, Brittany Morris, Taylor Morris, Kyle (Rachel) Yoder & Kayla (Ricky) Dooley; 16 great-grandchildren, Payton & Reese Maurice, Maelin, Rhenna, Sawyer Smith, Kaydence, Kylar, Kameron Helton, Callee, Catie, Courtney, Jake Dagger, Max, Gus Ward, Ashton & Grady Dooley. Kameron Helton, Callee, Catie, Courtney, Jake Dagger, Max, Gus Ward, Ashton & Grady Dooley; sisters, Frances (Loudenback) Fenton & Jeanne (Loudenback) Schmid; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Lynn Smith who passed away on Oct. 15, 1950; her half-sister, Sara Louise (Robert) Ward; brother, David & Norma Loudenback; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Fenton, Jack Schmidt, Dale & Marilyn June Smith, Roy & Shirley Keeran, Larry Smith and Jack (Lee) Rogers; her parents; her loving in-laws, Stanley & Ethel (Mary Ellen) Smith; as well as her son-in-law, Neil (Diane) Yoder.
The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of ViaQuest Hospice for their compassionate care during this time.
