URBANA - Robert S. "Bob" Girardi, age 75, passed away on March 9, 2021 at home in Urbana, Ohio, with his wife and family by his side after a brief illness. He was born in Beech Creek, PA, to Helen (nee Tarachko) and Abel Girardi. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Cecilia (nee Lorz), mother of his children and he remained a part of the Lorz family throughout his lifetime. He is also preceded by his mother-in-law, Edith Kohn. Bob was fortunate enough to find love again and is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Jeanie (Winner) Girardi, his children, Kevin (Amy) Girardi and Kristen (Alan) Anderson; step-children, Brad Winner and Susan Conley; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The eldest of three, he is also survived by his sisters Nancy Girardi of Columbus, Ohio and Joyce (Larry) Phelps of Wilmington, NC.
Bob graduated from Bishop Watterson High School, attended The Ohio State University and proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1964-1967. He went on to have a long career in computer programming with the United States Postal Service, from which he retired in 2000. Bob also had a love for aviation and dogs, having had at one time his private pilot's license, as well as being a dog dad. During his lifetime he enjoyed traveling, flying remote controlled airplanes, fishing, and sport shooting. Bob will be best remembered for his quick wit and sharp sense of humor. A gathering of friends and family will be held at WALTER & LEWIS FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to Barely Used Pets, which is a non-profit dog and cat rescue in Urbana, Ohio. They provide an alternative for the unwanted, stray and relinquished animals of Champaign County as well as surrounding counties. I too, haven't seen Bob in many years, probably Watterson's class of '63, twenty-five class reunion. He drove several classmates to school, in a car pool, in '60 & '61. My condolences to the family. Rest in peace, Bob.
