Robert Munz Obituary

BELLEFONTAINE - Robert W. "Butch" Munz, Jr., 73, of Huntsville passed away at his home, Thursday, September 14, 2017.

He was born September 8, 1944 in Akron, Ohio, the son of the late Robert W. and Hazel Heath (Burns) Munz.

He is survived by his wife Billie J. (Collum) Munz and they celebrated 50 years of marriage on August 26, 2017. He is also survived by two daughters, Mindi Munz of Bellefontaine and Molli (Amy) Munz of Holt, Michigan and two grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Maci Marie and Maverick Robert. He is also survived by his sister Bonnie Vermillion of Galloway, OH and sister-in-law, Carola Munz of Niceville, FL, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Richard "Dick" Munz (2010) and brother-in-law, Phil Vermillion (2011).

Butch graduated from Bellefontaine High School in the class of 1962 and they just celebrated their 55th class reunion. He went on to Wittenberg University, where he was Co-Captain of the Tiger football team and was a member of the wrestling team as a heavyweight. After graduation from Wittenberg, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, TX for four years, making two duty assignments to Vietnam and one to Libya. He ended his career as an Air Force Captain to return to his hometown where he eventually went to work for Citizens Federal Savings & Loan Association, retiring after 30 years alongside his childhood best friend, Chuck Earick.

Butch was a member of the Indian Lake Community Church and many other organizations including Bellefontaine Rotary Club for 30 years and for a number of years oversaw the Rotary chicken fry fundraiser. He served as president of the Bellefontaine High School Booster's Club and oversaw the 50-50 drawings at all home football and basketball games for many years and prided himself in the large amounts of money that were raised on those drawings. He was inducted into the Bellefontaine Athletic Hall of Fame and later was proud to have his daughter, Molli, also inducted.

Pastor Jim Ellington will officiate a celebration of life service on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Indian Lake Community Church, Russells Point. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St. Bellefontaine.

In lieu of flowers, the Munz family requests that memorial contributions be made to Citizens Federal Savings & Loan Association, P.O. Box 9, Bellefontaine, in Butch's name for a scholarship for a B.H.S. athlete at the end of this school year.
