URBANA - Sondra L. (Dorsey) Poling, 84, of Urbana, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022 in Springfield, Ohio.
She was born March 13, 1938 in Rosewood, Ohio the daughter of the late Dale J. and Violet E. (Erwin) Dorsey. Sondra graduated from Rosewood High School and worked as a secretary for Johnson Manufacturing Company; as a bookkeeper for Champaign Crop Service; and as an accounts payable clerk for Landmark and later Heritage Cooperative.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 186, Urbana Women of the Moose Chapter 698, Champaign County Farm Bureau, Ohio Home Demonstration, and the Champaign County Senior Center. Sondra was an active member of the local community serving on the board of elections, Urbana Township Zoning Committee, and as a Notary Public. One of Sondra's most cherished roles was that of a Shriner's wife where she supported her husband, Jim in the numerous accomplishments of the Champaign County Shrine Club.
Sondra was a remarkable lady who made friends with everyone she met. She enjoyed playing card and board games with friends and family. Sondra loved to laugh, was full of joy, and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her joy was contagious because after spending time with her, you left feeling uplifted.
Sondra is survived by her daughters, Polly McCall and Cindy Poling; a brother, Kermit (Carol) Dorsey; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; and sister, Janet Zirkle.
Sondra's daughters would like to express their utmost appreciation for the care and love their mother received from all of her caregivers, especially from the former staff members at Mercy McAuley Senior Center of Urbana and her Ohio Hospice Care Team.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in the funeral home with Rev. Doug Bovey officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ohio Hospice, 1830 N. Limestone St., Springfield, Ohio 45503 or the Shriners Hospital for Children, C/O Al Johnson, 4373 Bump Rd., Cable, Ohio 43009.
