URBANA - Virginia Sue (Hartzler) Forhan, 89, of Urbana, Ohio passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021.
She was born September 15, 1931 in DeGraff, Ohio, the daughter of John and Mary (Whitman) Hartzler. Virginia worked at the City Bakery, her father's business. She was also a teacher's aide for Urbana City Schools, a teacher for Montessori, and an assistant librarian for the Champaign County Library. She enjoyed crafts, particularly miniatures and quilting. But most of all Virginia loved spending time with family.
Virginia was survived by her sons, John "Scott" (Connie) Forhan and Michael Alan (Carol) Forhan; granddaughter, Jessica (Brent) Horwath, great-grandchildren, Aubrey Horwath and Aiden Horwath; sister, Karen (Larry) Headlee; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years, John David Forhan and sister, Barbara (Hartzler) Lawrence.
Guests are respectfully asked to wear masks and attendance will be monitored to ensure safety for everyone attending.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in the funeral home with Pastor Mike Stewart officiating.
Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
Virginia's parents hosted a July 4th celebration at their home on Grimes Circle for many years. At dusk, all would gather in the back yard to watch the Grimes Flying Lab light up the sky before the annual fireworks display. Thanks to the hard work of many volunteers, the "Lab" is once again carrying on that tradition. Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia's memory to the Grimes Flying Lab Foundation, 1636 North Main Street, Urbana, Ohio 43078 to help keep the Lab flying.
