Alexandra Kogut Obituary
New Hartford
Alexandra Gerace Kogut, 18, of New Hartford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2012. She was born January 19, 1994, in New Hartford, daughter of Mark and Becky Gerace Kogut. Alex was a 2012 graduate of New Hartford High School. Alex was a varsity swimmer, captain of the swim team, a lifeguard, taught at Learn to Swim in New Hartford, and was a friend to all in the community. She was also the recipient of the Citizenship Award, which personified her unselfishness, leadership, and willingness to always help others, without any motive besides caring. Her legacy to us is one of kindness and gentleness. Alex was pursuing her higher education and was excited about her future. Alex could do anything she set her mind to - she enjoyed swimming, snowboarding, water skiing, boating and ice skating. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at Big Moose Lake, along with her dogs, Sophia and DD Boy. Alex is survived by her parents, Mark and Becky Kogut, and her loving sister, Sydney Kogut, of New Hartford; her grandparents, Frank and Marion Gerace and John and Barbara Kogut; and great-grandmother, "Phil" Sciortino. She is treasured by her aunts and uncles, Victor Gerace, Anthony Sandouk, Lisa Sandouk-Romanelli and Don Romanelli, Felicia and Ken Lagasse, Jean Trippe, Lou and Patsy (deceased) Sandouk, Kelly Kogut and C.J. Weinschreider, Amy Kogut Klempay and Tom Klempay, Christopher and Shahiba Kogut, and cousins, Andrew and Emily Weinschreider, Oscar and Charles Klempay, Rayka and Calvin Kogut, Sarah and Grace Romanelli, Owen Lagasse, Marco and Francesca Gerace, and many loving extended family members. The funeral will be on Thursday at 12 noon at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours are on Wednesday (today) from 4-8 PM at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to New Hartford Central School District, Attn: Kim Hibbard, 29 Oxford Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413, to establish an Alexandra Kogut memorial award. Alex lived her life according to the quote by Ida Scott Taylor: "Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come. You do not know me but i too am a first year college student as Alex was. Her story hit home immensely because i have made new friends here at UAlbany who knew and were close to Alex. Her untimely death is a tragedy but i hope you will take comfort in knowing that your daughter is with god and will forever live on in your hearts. it's hard to find the right words for a situation like this. i did not have the pleasure of knowing alex personally but am still distraught by the whole thing. i am a member of the college at brockport community and this tragedy has affected all of us. my heart, prayers, and thoughts are with her family during this long, difficult journey that lies ahead of them. May they find peace and comfort knowing she is with god in a more beautiful place.

There are no sufficient words that could provide comfort under these circumstances. Our chuch, The Christ Community Church, will be praying for all who have been marked by this terrible tradegy tomorrow evening. My wife and her family are praying for your family. We live in Brockport Village and are Brockport Alumni. My spouse is originally from Utica NY with relatives in New Hartford as well. There are a lot of people whom Alexandra and her family crossed paths with who never knew each other until something like this brings us all together. I do not know you personally, however I wanted to let you know your entire family have all been in my thoughts and prayers since I first heard of this horrible tragedy, and you will all continue to be in my thoughts and prayers for the loss of Alex, a beautiful young girl who is now Heaven's newest angel. I cannot imagine the pain your heart is experiencing, as a parent it breaks my heart. My mother and many aunts and uncles were born and raised in Utica, and Dr. Kogut delivered my youngest son. Although I did not know Alex I am a mother who lost her 23 yr old Daughter last January 1st.. I Know the pain you are going through and There are just no words I or anyone can say to ease your pain.. My heart is just sick with grief for you and your family. My mother and I were traveling thru New England when we stopped for dinner in Utica. I kept seeing a local news segment about a funeral for a young woman with this sweet and lovely face.
