Alfred S. "Al" Chwalek

Alfred S. "Al" Chwalek, 88, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2012, at home. He was born in New York Mills on October 25, 1924, a son of Stanley, Sr., and Agnes Tolpa Chwalek, and was a graduate of New York Mills High School. Alfred served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was united in marriage to Shirley Roach; she passed away several years ago. Al was employed by Miga Auto Sales, New York Mills, as a driver and salesman for several years, until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus/Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church, New York Mills, Malsan Jones V.F.W. Post 7393, New York Mills Senior Citizens and a former member of Twin Ponds Golf and Country Club. Al was a very sociable person and will be missed by his coffee buddies at McDonalds. He had a lifelong passion for golf and enjoyed winter vacations in Florida with the love of his life and partner of forty years, Josephine Scollino. Survivors include his beloved Josephine Scollino; one son, Alan Chwalek, Denver; and a daughter, Sandy Chwalek Farley and her husband, Damian Farley, Natick, MA; a stepdaughter, Cindy and her husband, Doug Flewelling; six grandchildren, Damian, Zach and Griffin Farley, MA, Alison Alberico and Courtney and Brent Flewelling, New Hartford; also five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Connie and her husband, Bob Croop. He was predeceased by one daughter, Cheryl Chwalek, in 2002; his brothers, Joseph and Stanley; also his sisters, Jenny and Emily. Friends and relatives are invited to attend Als funeral to be held Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 9:15 from Wolanin Funeral Home, Inc., 266 Main Street, New York Mills, and at 10:00 AM from Sacred Heart of Jesus/Holy Cross Polish National Catholic Church, New York Mills. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery, New Hartford, with Military Honors. Calling hours will be held Friday, November 23, 2012, from 4:00-7:00 PM. "Al will be missed by all."
