Josephine Cora (Vallese) Skaritza, 93, of Sauquoit, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Cora was born on July 28, 1919, in Savona, New York, the daughter of Peter and Hazel Gunderman Vallese. She was a graduate of Union Endicott High School. Cora was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Skaritza, whom she married on September 27, 1941, in St. Ambrose Church, Endicott, NY. During WW II, Cora worked for Wright Aerospace, making airplane parts, in Patterson, New Jersey. She later worked for General Electric in Utica and Marcy State Hospital where she was a nurse's aide until her retirement in 1982. Cora was a member of FCE Snowflake Chapter Embroidery Club and EGA. Cora loved nature. She spent many happy hours in her yard, gardening or watching birds. She enjoyed doing needlework and was an avid NY Yankees fan. Surviving Cora are one brother and sisters-in-law, Peter and Waneta Vallese, Endicott, Dolores Vallese, Apalachin, NY, and Eve Vallese, Conklin, NY; brother-in-law, William Fiduccia, Toms River, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many loving neighbors and friends. Cora was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Mary Vallese and Rudy and Rolly Vallese, and her sister, Florence Fiduccia. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Surridge & Roberts Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be in Vestal, NY, on Monday at 12 p.m. at Memorial Park Baptist Church. There will also be one hour of visitation at the churchprior to the funeral service.
