Douglas L. Petrie
Sauquoit
Douglas L. Petrie, 81, passed away on December 1, 2009, at the Lutheran Home in Clinton. He was born in Utica, NY, on November 27, 1928, a son of the late Leo and Agnes Miller Petrie. Doug attended school in Clayville and was a graduate of Oriskany Falls High School. Doug proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 until 1952. On July 18, 1953, he was united in marriage with the former Evelyn Harjung in St. Patricks Church, Clayville. At one time, he worked for Drop Forge and from 1964-1993 was employed by Revere Copper Products. He also worked part-time for over 20 years for Williams Tool Co. in Chadwicks. Doug was a member of Wicks-Staley Post 231 in Clayville and a former member of St. Patricks Holy Name Society and the Sauquoit Volunteer Fire Co. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Evelyn; two daughters, Betty Jane Petrie and Karen and Rick Barnes, both of Sauquoit; four sons, Daniel and Kathy Petrie, of Clayville, Stephen Petrie, of Sauquoit, Robbie Petrie, of Chadwicks, and Bruce and Kris Petrie, of VA; 15 grandchildren, Sean, Danielle, Dianna, Christina, Kathryn, Michael, Colleen, Stephen, Stephanie, Sarah, Matthew, Claire, Luke, Heather and Kayla; six great-grandchildren, Reed, Taylor Grace, Madison, Carys, Tyler and Benjamin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Donald, and his brother, Richard. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 1736 Burrstone Rd. in New Hartford. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery in Clayville. His family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the Willow Way Wing at the Lutheran Home for the exceptional care he has received over the past year.
