George Wetherell Obituary
SKANEATELES - George A. Wetherell, 89, of Skaneateles, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at Iroquois Nursing Home.
Born to Irene and Thomas Wetherell of Westmoreland, he moved to Skaneateles in 1970.
George began his career teaching in the Roscoe School District. He then was principal with the Westmoreland High School and moved to the Earlville School District as a supervising principal. He retired from the Skaneateles Central School District as the assistant district principal.
George was predeceased by his son, Tim; brothers, Sterling (Anne) and James; and brother-in-law, Wilbur Laube.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Penny; daughters, Mari Taylor, Gail (Nick) McClain and Kay Powell; stepsons, John Covell and Andy (Karen) Covell; sister, Margery Laube; brother, Tom (Kathy) Wetherell; sister-in-law, Jean Wetherell; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, March 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. George will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Skaneateles Education Foundation, P.O. Box 16, Skaneateles, NY 13152.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Mr. Wetherell. He was one of my favorite teachers at Westmoreland Central High School.He was my basketball coach and was a great role model.Rest in peace coach. Jim

Chris and I were very sad to hear of George's passing. George was a good friend and mentor to me when I was in my first year as principal at Waterman School. John Geiss, Glen Hembach, George and myself had a myriad of experiences from running a school district to just having fun over a beer after a board meeting. George was one of the good guys who imparted a great deal of knowledge and experiences to all of us..he had this smile or maybe I should call it a smirk that said without words "and what don't you understand about that"
Our prayers and thoughts go out to Penney and family.
George will be missed.
