Joan E. Barrett Matteson, 74, of Sangerhill Road, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in her home, with her loving children and grandchildren at her side, just as she had wished. She was born on August 13, 1939, in Bridgewater, the daughter of the late Paul and Hazel Barrett, and was a graduate of Bridgewater Central School. On May 7, 1960, at St. Bernard's Church in Waterville, NY, she married the late Myron Matteson who was her soul mate for 49 years before he lost his battle to complications of ALS on February 23, 2010. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Kathryn and the late Alan Musselman, of Idaho, Lori Hinman and her soul mate, Chris Langdon, of Vernon, Susan Matteson-Eld and Garth Eld, of Washington, Michael Scott Matteson, of Waterville, and Bridget and Ron Van-Pelt, of New Berlin; five grandchildren, Michael Olsen, Nicole Hinman, Alexander Musselman, Jeremy and Kayla Van-Pelt; one sister, Janice Jones, of Ohio; her mother-in-law, Bessie Matteson; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; mother and father, Paul and Hazel Barrett; sister, Barb DeRosia; brother, Ronald Barrett; and son-in-law, Alan Musselman. Joan dedicated 53 years to raising her children and grandchildren which was her full-time job that she loved very much. A very special thank you to her son, Scott, for dedicating his last 5 years in keeping his parents comfortable and in their home for their final years. He can now relocate back to Idaho; also, Michelle Rhymestine, her favorite "doctor", for all her years that she dedicated to making mom comfortable. Per Joan's wishes, services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
