Joyce Ernst Obituary

Joyce Mae Ernst
Boonville
Joyce Mae (Grower) Ernst, 69, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, best friend, has after a courageous battle, returned home on Monday, February 21, 2011. Joyce was an amazing soul, with a passion for life almost unmatched. Joyce loved her family, her friends, the Lord, her dogs, and her garden. She was down-to-earth, open-minded, accepting and genuinely happy with the simple things. Joyce had an intense sense of family. She taught her children, John, Lee and Jan, and grandchildren to really live, never looking back, to be honest and independent. Joyce was strong like her father, Robert, and beautiful like her mother, Erma. She had her heart stolen by an incredible man, David Ernst, who never left her side for 48 years. She was beyond thankful for her lifelong friendship with her "sisters" Sandy Matthews, Donna Douglas and Carolyn Christiansen. She graduated from Boonville High School and Utica School of Beauty Culture and operated Joyce Mae Beauty Shoppe, was an operator for the General Telephone Company, and also worked at Sunset Nursing Home in the Dietary Department, retiring in 2004. Joyce is survived by her husband, David; one son, John, Boonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lee Ann and Lyle Platt, Boonville, and Jan and Jody Martin, Marcy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Clara Grower, Boonville, and Bob and Barnette Grower, Houston, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Fred Snyder, Copenhagen; grandchildren, Connor John Ernst, Michael and Maranda Platt, Kaden and Reina Platt, Wyett, Deena, Rachel, Laura, Connie, Curtis, and Sarah Martin; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Celebration of her Life will commence at First Baptist Church of Boonville on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Joseph Feller, Pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Window Restoration Fund or Lewis County Humane Society. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mills Funeral Home, 301 Post St., Boonville. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Joyces online memorial page by going to: www.millsfuneralhomes.com

Aunt Joyce always had a hug and warm heart, and she would welcome anyone into her home. We will remember her beautiful smile and the twinkle in her eyes.

We will always remember Joyce and her special gifts - honesty, bravery, proud, wonderful wife, mother and friend. She met life's end challenges no different than she lived her life - giving it all she had and setting an example for all of us to follow. Dave, our kindest thoughts and heartfelt sympathy are with you and your family. Although we have lost her in this life, her spirit for living is forever and eternally ours to remember.
