Justin A. Donahoe
Sauquoit
Justin A. Donahoe, 88, passed away on June 26, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born in Clayville, NY, on June 24, 1922, the son of the late Justin W. Donahoe, WWI Veteran, and Christine Quinn Donahoe, and was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley Central School. In 1942, Justin enlisted in the U.S. Army and trained in communications at Columbia University in New York City. During WWII, he served as a Staff Sgt. Tech Specialist where he was involved in 2 battles in New Guinea, the extended battle for the Phillipines and later in Kyoto, Japan, where he took over communications and the reconstruction efforts. He returned to the U.S. and wed his sweetheart, Jeanne Wenz, on February 9, 1946, in St. Patricks Church in Clayville, a loving union of 61 years, until her death on June 16, 2007. From 1945 until 1980, Justin was employed in the elevator industry and was the co-owner of Mohawk Lift Systems in Sauquoit. He also purchased and renovated two rental apartments and owned a local trailer park. Justin was a community minded individual having served for 9 years as Town of Paris Councilman and was also a Paul Harris Fellow with the Sauquoit Rotary Club, having been a dedicated member since 1970. He was a lifelong member of St. Patricks Church in Clayville where he served as usher for 30 years. His involvement with his church extended to his time given to the building of the barbeque pits and cooking the chicken for St. Patricks Churchs annual Strawberry Festival. He was a respected member of his community, a loyal friend and a true gentleman of honor and integrity. Justin was a treasured and beloved father and grandfather who will always be remembered by his loving family; his son and daughter-in-law, Justin W. and Jo Ann (Griffin) Donahoe, of Sauquoit; his two daughters, Jacquelyn Donahoe, of Balston Spa, and Jeannine Donahoe, of Grand Junction, CO; and his grandchildren, Jaime Donahoe, Jessica Plachotnik and Justin C. Donahoe. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and longtime friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 30, at 8:45 from the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit, and 9:30 at St. Patricks/St. Anthonys Church in Chadwicks. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery in Clayville. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 at the funeral home. In memory of Justin A.
