Kim Kershaw Obituary

Kim Savett
Kershaw
NEW HARTFORD
Kim Savett Kershaw passed away on October 10, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. Kim was born on October 18, 1952 at Faxton Hospital in Utica, NY. Her education began at New Hartford schools where she cultivated an early love of art that was nurtured through additional classes at Munson Williams Proctor Museum art school. As a child she spent her summers at camp ALS AKH KAN on Brantingham Lake and would later become a counselor in her teenage years. After graduating from New Hartford High School she attended Garland Junior College in Boston, MA, and went on to continue her studies at Syracuse University where she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts with a major in metal arts. In 1972 Kim met Michael. She and the love of her life were married September 1977. Together they raised their two magnificent children, Gregory and Lindsey. Kim was an accomplished artist and entrepreneur. After finishing college, she moved to Boston to pursue her career as an artist. She spent several years working as a jewelry designer for Pierre Cardin and Swank before she returned to Utica to begin her life with Michael. In Utica she began working for Mele Manufacturing as a designer. At the same time she created and marketed a unique household storage system called Hook-Ups. After her children were born, Kim continued her work as an artist and focused on creating one-of-a-kind jewelry in gold, silver and precious stones. She said that her work was inspired by the infinite forms of the natural world and her pieces transformed metal and gems into shapes that mirrored the complexity and beauty she saw in the world around her. Once Kims children left for college, she moved her studio to Williams Street in Clinton, NY, and established Kim Kershaw Jewelry Designs where she continued to create work that was shown in galleries across the country. As the success of Kims jewelry grew, she co-founded Ali-Linz Home and Accessories, a shop in Clinton which featured her jewelry, home furnishings, antiques, gifts and accessories. Kim was also an active member of local philanthropic organizations and served on the board of directors for Family Services and the House of the Good Shepherd. She enjoyed her summers as a member of the Sadaquada Golf Club where she played tennis, watched her children grow and made many great memories. Kims public life was filled with many accomplishments, but family and friends were always what mattered most to her. She supported her family with unflinching love and never hesitated to help a friend in need. Her quick wit and keen mind inspired and entertained all those that had the opportunity to share their lives with her. Kim could always be counted on for an honest answer and sound opinion laced with wit and good humor. When illness struck, she endured every challenge with grace, courage and dignity. Kim died peacefully at home in her bed with those that she loved dearly surrounding her. She was predeceased by her father, Dr. Milton A. Savett. Kim is survived by her husband, Michael Kershaw; her son, Gregory Kershaw and his girlfriend, Emma Lindqvist; her daughter, Lindsey Kershaw; and her fiance, Michael Gluf; her mother, Frances Wolfson and her husband, Lester; her brother, Dr. Mark Savett, and his wife, Wendy, her brother, Noah Savett, her brother, William Savett and his wife, Anna; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Gloria Kershaw; her sister-in-law, Susan Fish, and her husband, Larry; her brother-in-law, Jeffrey Kershaw and his wife, Eileen; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Johnson. In addition Kim had numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Jorg Dietrich at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Alicia DeTraglia at Faxton Regional Cancer Center, and Ann and Crystal at Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Calling hours are Saturday (today) 2-5 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams and EdmundsFuneral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. A Memorial Service will be on Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Kirkland Art Center, E. Park Row, Clinton. I met Kim and Mike by chance in Boston in early 1978. We went and had a sandwich and as I recall laughed most of the time. So it is that good memory of my friend I will carry always.
