Lucy Fontaine Obituary

Lucy R. Fontaine
Utica-New Hartford
Mrs. Lucy R. (Sangiacomo) Fontaine, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at The Pines at Utica with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on February 28, 1920, Lucy was the daughter of the late Gerardo and Gaetana (Fiore) Sangiacomo. She was raised and educated locally. On July 12, 1947 she married Charles Fontaine with whom she shared an ideal union of love for 34 years until his passing on January 31, 1982. Their life together was almost a fairy-tale come true, and their dream of happiness and compatibility was a reality. At one time, Lucy held a position at the Shenandoah and Oneita Knitting Mills as an assembler. At home, she was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and a master of domestic duties. Among her natural talents, she was an excellent cook and a good baker. Her family was the greatest inspiration and source of love in her life, and she cherished the time she spent with them. She possessed such a strong bond of love with her daughters that she was also their best friend. She especially enjoyed music and ballroom dancing with her husband, a festive flair they shared together for many years. Along with him, she was a member of the Moose Lodge in Marcy. Lucy had a deep, faithful, and devoted sense of religion. Lucy is survived by her devoted daughters, Gloria Jean Fabbio of New Hartford, and Janet Lou McKinney of Clinton; and her grandchildren, Thomas Anthony Fabbio and Michele Damiano and her daughter, Brianna, and Sherri Ann and Tim Johnston, all of Schuyler, and their father, Thomas John Fabbio of Utica; Charles James McKinney of Utica, and Luann and Charles Santelli of CT, and their father, James A. McKinney. Lucy held a special relationship with her great-granddaughter, RoseMarie Rosie McKinney, who she loved, cared for, and helped to raise and who she considered to be one of her own daughters. RoseMarie passed away on July 7, 2009. Survivors also include many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Rose Sangiacomo, Mary Leo, Mario Fontaine, Steve and Dolores Fontaine, and Jerry and Marion Fontaine. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Josephine and Cosmo DAmore, Rose and Albert Cingranelli, and Theresa Tessie and Edward Gallimo; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Sam and Anita Sangiacomo, Rocco and Edith Sangiacomo, Jerry Sangiacomo, and James J. and Mary Sangiacomo, and infant brother, Anthony Sangiacomo; and her in-laws, Liberty Leo, Albert and Shirley Fontaine, and Monica Fontaine. The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff our family at The Pines at Utica, especially Gail Augustine, for the care given to Lucy and the compassion conveyed to her family. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Lucys funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. Committal prayers and interment will follow graveside at St. Agnes Cemetery. Online tributes at: www.EannaceFuneralHome.com
