Michael Galligano Obituary

Michael A. Galligano
Rome, NY/Florida
Mr. Michael A. Galligano, age 60, a native of Rome and most recently of Florida, passed away after a brief illness on Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2011. Born in Rome on September 21, 1951, Michael was the son of the late Vito A. and Mary (Comis) Galligano. Raised and educated in Rome, he was a 1969 graduate of Rome Catholic High School. He continued his academic studies at Utica College of Syracuse University graduating in 1973. Michael worked as a commodities broker and trader for numerous investment firms throughout the country during his career. He had a sharp wit, a bright mind, an edge for humor, and embraced life in his own unique way. Michael was knowledgeable when it came to horses; he appreciated thoroughbreds, was keen at handicapping, and enjoyed the sport of racing. His home parish was St. John the Baptist Church. Left to mourn Michaels passing are his adoring and favorite aunt and uncle, Shirley and Carl Lanzi of Rome. Always close to his heart were the memories of his aunt and uncle, Josephine Jo and Ted Bolanowski. He also leaves his great-aunt and uncle, Mary Mowie and Gilo Alaimo of Rome; his aunt, Gloria Galligano of Utica; and his cousins, Debi Lanzi, David Lanzi; Eva Meola and her children, Joey and Nichole; Michael J. Galligano, Sr., and Cathy A. Galligano; and his longtime friend and brother, Jimmy Smaldon and his wife, Donna. He was predeceased by his uncles, Anthony Babe Comis and Michael A. Galligano, Jr.; and his cousins, Joseph Bolanowski and Sandra Galligano. The family will gather at a private time to honor and commemorate Michaels life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St., Rome, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Paul Angelicchio and con-celebrant Rev. James Tormey. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Faxton-St. Lukes Regional Cancer Center, 91 Perimeter Rd., Suite 130, Rome, NY 13440; envelopes will be available at the church service. Interment will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Online tributes at: www.EannaceFuneralHome.com

Our very tightly knit group of friends spent many happy times with Mike (Goog to all do us) while growing up in Rome. Although we have lost touch through the years, I have never lost the fond memories. I always thought we would reconnect at some point, and I am sorry that we never had the opportunity to do so. Mike will be missed. And he will live on in my heart.
