Raymond Liuzzi Obituary

Dr. Raymond A. Liuzzi 1944 - 2017
WHITESBORO - Dr. Raymond A. Liuzzi, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center with his loving family at his side.
Born in Utica on December 5, 1944, Raymond was the son of the late Frank and Rose (Alito) Comito Liuzzi. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1962 and continued his education at Utica College matriculating to Syracuse University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, completed a Masters degree program in Engineering, and pursued postgraduate doctoral studies earning a PhD in Computer Science. On September 9, 1967 he married his true love, the former Lorraine M. Corigliano. Their love story is an inspiration, each equally devoted to the other. Their unspoken, never boastful, strong bond has come full circle as tomorrow is their 50th wedding anniversary.
In 1966, Ray began his professional career at the Air Force Research Lab at Griffiss Air Force Base and he held the title of Senior and Supervisory Computer Scientist. He retired in 2006 after many continuous years of service. Upon retirement, he established Raymond Technology, a venture that again reflected his work ethic in a profession he loved. He served as a consultant in his field and maintained all his contacts to his last day, a testament to his passion in job performance, knowledge in his field, and the respect he garnered from his clients and community. Ray always kept things light, but like the sun, he had a tremendous gravitational pull on anyone in his sphere of influence.
Ray was a magnanimous man, a great leader, and a social coordinator. Although he worked hard, he enjoyed life, and his hospitality and light-hearted personality sparked the party. He had an optimistic mindset and sought out the good in everyone. He led by example, especially with his family. He taught his children to work hard and appreciate the value of each day. He championed education as the nucleus and principle element of success. Ray never missed a minute of life and was magical in making his way through the maze. When grandchildren came into his life, "Pops" was in his happiest mode. He was the center of their lives and did so many great and wonderful things with them. He never skipped a sporting or school event. He thought of his family in so many ways and was generationally beloved. He was also very proud of his heritage and roots. He made each holiday special and the Christmas seasons of past and present were unforgettable. The enthusiasm he exuded on family trips was memorable and made for quite a journey. He knew how to have fun and get the most out of these occasions. "Camp Liuzzi" was host to many summer gatherings, Sunday sunsets, Bocce games, and he especially enjoyed every visit with family and friends. As a sportsman, he appreciated the camaraderie of the game of golf with his weekly league. He was a great coach, and all his team players loved him. He also ran over 20 Boilermakers and more recently he volunteered his time. He and Lorraine continued to remain active by taking daily walks. Always an educator and cognitive architect, Ray continued his career as an Adjunct Professor in the Computer Science Department at Utica College. He was a member of The Catholic Community of Whitesboro at St. Paul's Church. He was a believer and practiced his faith each day in so many ways.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his daughters and sons-in-law, Jacqueline and James Bushey, and Karla and Christopher Williams; his son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Jennifer Liuzzi; and his grandchildren, Jimmy, Taylor, and Ryan Bushey; Ashley, Tara, and Megan Williams; and Maria Liuzzi. Always close to his heart was the memory of his infant granddaughter, Kirsten Anne Bushey who preceded him. He also leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and David Kearney; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Liuzzi, Louis and Esther Comito, Mary Lourdes (Comito) Chiffy, Geraldine and Pasquale Merola, Anthony and Andrea Corigliano, and Michelle Corigliano. He will be affectionately remembered as "Uncle Ray" to his many nieces and nephews; and many special friends and co-workers who blessed his life. He was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses, Helen and Lawrence O'Brien, Peter and Delores Liuzzi, Lucille and Stanley Kuznia, Katherine and Arthur DelMedico, Joseph Comito, Alice Liuzzi, and Patricia and Anthony Orsaio; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Sarah Corigliano; and brother-in-law, James Corigliano.
Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family will remain until all visitors have been seen.
By family request, please omit floral offerings.
Raymond's funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at The Catholic Community of Whitesboro at St. Paul's Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Thomas Durant. Interment will follow graveside in Calvary Cemetery.

Dr. Ray was truly a very unique and lovable individual. I had the pleasure of working with him for most of my career at Rome Lab. He always offered insight, support, and most importantly friendship. I will never forget how many times "Lucky" won one of our office donut sweepstakes, his exploits on the golf course in the Pasttime League, coaching CYO basketball at St. Paul's in Whitesboro, his numerous Yankee bus trips (even allowing a Mets fan to attend), and recently coaching his grandson Jimmy for the past three summers on the Whitestown Post American Legion baseball team. I will miss him greatly. My sincere condolences to the entire Liuzzi family.
