Robert Schram Obituary

Robert "Bob" W. Schram, Sr. 1947 - 2016
Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather
VERNON - Robert "Bob" Schram, Sr., 69, of Vernon, passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Bob was born July 15, 1947, in Utica, to the late Walter and Dorothy (Hendricks) Schram. He graduated from New Hartford High School in 1966 and was drafted and served in the Army during the Vietnam War until 1968. Bob obtained the ranking of Master Sergeant and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart. On August 1, 1970, he married the love of his life Kathy Lynn Ramsey in Utica.
Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather who made it a point to make all sporting, band and concert events of his children and grandchildren. He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts with his sons and was also a Cub Master. Bob enjoyed fishing, traveling to Florida with Kathy and the family, as well as a good little league game. He cherished the monthly card games with close friends, Brian and Faye Twitchell and Roger and Chris Bramer. Bob was a Gas Mechanic for National Grid and was active in the USAR. In the early 1970's, Bob was the first Vietnam era Post Commander at the former VFW 368 in Utica.
Surviving Bob besides his beloved wife, Kathy, are his cherished sons, Robert Schram, Jr., Utica, and Jason (Shannon) Schram, FL; grandchildren, Riley, Cameron, Bailey and Skylar; his Godson, whom he thought of as a grandchild, Nicholas "Robert" Matteson; his brother, Kenneth (Kathy M.) Schram, New York Mills; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his special canine companion, Lela.
Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Nunn & McGrath Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services for Bob will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
The Schram family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the 8th Floor at Strong Memorial Hospital, as well as Dr. Richard Cherpak, for the care and compassion shown Bob during his stay.
Remembrances in Bob's name may be made to the Tammy Twitchell Crafts Foundation, Inc., a charity assisting families with Cystic Fibrosis, which was very near and dear to Bob's heart. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
