An Inspiration To All
NEWPORT– Sophia S. Johnson, 15, of Platform Road, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2018 with her loving family at her side.
Sophia was born on August 20, 2002, in New Hartford, a daughter of Roy and Julie (Bouchard) Johnson. She was currently a 10th grade student at West Canada Valley Central School where she enjoyed her participation in the Gardening Club. Sophia was also a member of Girl Scout Troop #6057 and recently started her own bakery business "Sophia's Sweets and Treats, Inc." She was member of the Poland Baptist Church.
Sophia will always be remembered by her sparkling blue eyes, her incredible smile that lit up a room when she entered and a heart that was so pure and giving. She was a sweet little girl that touched so many lives both in and out of our community. No matter her circumstances, we would often hear her humming and every opportunity she had, she would be in the kitchen baking, cooking, or simply helping out. Her faith, strength, perseverance and love of life was admired by many. Although her life here was short, she taught us all that it's not the amount of years here, but who we are and what we do while we are here that truly makes a difference. She taught us we could find joy in the midst of darkness, to slow down and enjoy our lives more fully, to live simply and enjoy the most precious things in life…. each other. She is now home with the Lord, experiencing one of her favorite verses, 2 Corinthians 5:7, " We live by faith and not by sight..." Her faith has become her sight.
As her family, we have not walked this journey alone. Our families, church, friends, WCV School, teachers, coworkers, the entire Mohawk Valley and beyond has supported us in one way or another over the past ten and a half years. There aren't enough "Thank You's" for those who have walked this journey with us. So many people entered our journey so unselfishly, nothing went unnoticed. A special thank you to Dr. Susan Chi, MaryAnn Zimmerman, Kristin, Janine, Despina, Dr. Nehal Parikh, Dr. Moss, Melissa Goddard (CCM team), Tricia, Dr. Weintraub, Dr. Porter, Sue, Dr. Henderson and the many nurses and other physicians that worked so hard to help her. As well as our many, many prayer warriors, Pastor Mark Sellers and Pastor Allen Potter who has guided us to achieve peace with some very difficult decisions over these past years. I can't imagine walking this journey without our faith.
Survivors besides her parents, Roy and Julie; include her sister, Olivia, at home; her maternal grandmother, Shirley Bouchard, of Stratford; her paternal grandmother, Janet Johnson (Fred Pettingill), of Salisbury; aunts and uncles, Kim (Dean) Trumbull, of Saratoga, Jeff (Donna) Bouchard, of Oppenheim, David (Patty) Bouchard, of Ft. Plain, John (Theresa) Bouchard, of Newport, Robert (Claudia) Johnson, Jr., of Stratford, Randy Johnson, Sr. (Lenore), of Salisbury, Reid Johnson, Sr., also of Salisbury and Janine (Shea) Manley, of Little Falls; and many cousins and extended family. Sophia was predeceased by her grandfathers, Robert Johnson, Sr. and Edward Bouchard; and her uncles, Edward, Jr. and James Bouchard.
Sophia's Memorial Service will be held at the Poland Baptist Church, 8784 South Main Street, Poland on Monday, August 20, 2018, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Mark Sellers officiating. Calling hours at the Church are Sunday, August 19, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m.
