Thomas P. Barnes 1954 - 2021
STOCKWELL - Thomas P. Barnes, 66, of Stockwell, passed away, Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford.
Tom was born, July 11, 1954, in Utica, a son of Philip D., Sr. and Vera J. (Brown) Barnes. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1973. In his early years, Tom worked on the family farm, then in custodial services at Hamilton College, MVCC and St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.
Tom's favorite times were spent with his many friends and family, including his many cousins. He especially enjoyed getting together for dinners and cookouts with them. The Barnes Family Reunion was the highlight of his summer.
Tom was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church, Waterville and a member of the Optimist Club.
Surviving are his mother, Vera Barnes, of Stockwell; his siblings, Sandra (Gene) Gonsowski and children, Sonya, Sarah, Sophie, Owen of MI; Sharon (Stephen) Zombek, of Deansboro and children, Mary, Mike, Renee, Stacy; Nancy (Hal) Chernoff, of MD and daughter, Carrie Jo; Delmar (Liz) Barnes, of Waterville and children, Robert, Jason, James, Elizabeth; Kate Barnes, of New York Mills and daughter, Michaela; Philip (Marie) Barnes, Jr., of Stockwell and children, Dan, Samantha, Ethan, Alicia; Bill (Judith) Barnes, of Stockwell and children, Madden, Paeton, Thomas Morgan; John (Rosa) Barnes, of CA and daughter, Andrea; many aunts, uncles, great nieces/nephews and cousins too numerous to individually name, but just as dear.
He was predeceased by his father; nephew, Shannon Chernoff; and his special Aunt Mary Lue O'Brien.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, on Saturday, January 23rd at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the Mass, friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Bernard's Cemetery in the spring. All Covid protocols must be implemented.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Bernard's Church.

Vera and all the Barnes kids - I was shocked to just see that Tom had died. So many memories of times the Donahoe’s and the Barnes’ crew had together for lots of years. Wishing I’d seen this hours ago as I would have been there today.
