Thomas C. Gallagher, 91, residing in Sandusky, entered eternal life early Friday morning, February 13, 2015, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness. Thomas was born on June 3, 1923, in Utica, New York, to the late Thomas William and Mary Gertrude (Carney) Gallagher. He was a 1941 graduate of Saint Francis de Sales High School in Utica, New York. Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He graduated from John Carroll University in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He also attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, from 1948-1949. He then attended Bowling Green State University where he received his Master's degree in Education in 1959. Thomas was a member of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Marblehead. He was a member of the Board of Elections where he served two four year terms. He first taught in upstate New York. He was employed by the Sandusky City School District where he taught in Sandusky schools from 1956-1958. He then was the Principal of Osborne School until retiring in 1986. Thomas is survived by his twelve children, Thomas (Martha) Gallagher of Toledo, OH, Susan Gallagher of Sandusky, James (Michele) Gallagher of Sandusky, Mark Gallagher of Columbus, OH, Matthew Gallagher of Fredericksburg, VA, Brian Gallagher of Elkhart, IN, Patrick Gallagher of Smyrna, GA, Mary (Bill) Faulkner of Sandusky, Kathleen (Greg) Loya of Cleveland, OH, Christine (James) Loya of Cleveland, OH, Joseph Gallagher of Columbus, OH, and Patricia (Michael) Kelly of Sandusky; twenty-six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Weichel) Gallagher, in 2013; their children, Luke Gallagher and Mary Scholastica Gallagher; his brother, Charles (Doris) Gallagher; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth (Raymond) Zoeckler. Friends may call on Friday, February 20, 2015, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the Parastas Service at 7:30 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Friends may also call on Saturday, February 21, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until the Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church, 506 East Main Street, Marblehead, OH 43440, with Fr. Bob Kelly presiding. Burial will be at a later date in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Waterville, New York.
