Gladys King Obituary

Gladys King, 95, of Williamsburg, passed away on July 4, 2021. Upon learning of her passing, a friend remarked, "She was a real firecracker! Not surprising, she was called on the fourth of July to come home". Gladys was a graduate of Bald Creek High School, Buncomb County, NC in 1944. She was fiercely independent and took pride in her self-reliance, well-kept home, and yard. Gladys was devoted to her family, known for her honesty and firm work ethic and unending energy. She worked for Howard Johnsons/Marriott for 50 years and was last employed at Candlelight Kitchen in Norge. She worked well into her 80's. She was respected in the community and loved by all who were fortunate enough to meet her. Gladys is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby King; son, David Maurice King; parents, Myrtle Hensley Profitt and Arthur Profitt; and siblings, Porter, Thelma, Pauline, Margie, Reece, and Barbara. She is survived by her son, Robert L. King and wife Emma J. King; daughter, Kathy L. Nott; grandchildren, Tanya King Bowmer, Tammy King Lathan, David M. West, Clinton R. Nott, Robert F. King, Jennifer L. Pye, and Misty C. King; and great grandchildren, Tyler A. Cox, Brandon S. Bowmer, Blake Bowmer, Jackson W. Lathan, Catelin E. King, Lindsay C. King, and Kevin R. King.
