Lyn Cini Obituary

Retired Army Colonel Lyn G. Cini of Williamsburg, died March 29, 2023 at Williamsburg Landing. Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1937, Lyn graduated from DePaul University as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1959 and received his Master's degree from the University of Illinois in 1972. After basic air defense artillery training in 1959 he served in the Seattle and Korean Air Defenses. Subsequent assignments were as a battery commander in the 1st Infantry Division, and in 1965, was deployed to Vietnam as an operations officer on the Division Staff. ROTC instructor duty at the University of Illinois was followed by assignment to 4th Army Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. After attending the Command and General Staff College he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, followed by another tour of duty in Korea with the 2d Infantry Division. In Germany he commanded the 1st Battalion, 75th Artillery. Duty in Strategic Plans and Policies at the Pentagon followed. His last assignment was as Chief of Staff, US Army Military District of Washington. On his retirement from the military in 1985 Colonel Cini joined the Titan Corporation as a senior analyst specializing in continuity of operations plans for the federal government. In 1996 he retired to Governors Land in Williamsburg, Virginia where he enjoyed golf, boating, bridge and travel. Lyn was a member of Alpha Delta Sigma professional fraternity, the First Infantry Division Officers Dinner Committee, the Crown Colony Club, and he served on the Board of Governors for the Two Rivers Country Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carol; son, John and his family; daughters Carol and Darcy; granddaughter Sophia and his brother, Dale and his family. A private military funeral is planned at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to the Williamsburg Landing Benevolence Fund or to the Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
