Steve Dansby Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Williamsburg - Steve Dansby was born on December 31, 1970 and died from pancreatic cancer on March 13, 2015 in Williamsburg. He grew up in Virginia, Florida and Texas. He attended several schools including Williamsburg Christian Academy and Lafayette. Steve owned and operated his AAA Cycle Shop in Jacksonville. He bought, sold, repaired and raced motorcycles, and also repaired industrial compressors. He sold AAA in 2008, then worked in restaurant management until 2013. He worked for Hooters in Jacksonville, Daytona, Miami and San Francisco, followed by work for Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants in Chattanooga, Rockville and D.C. Steve was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in July 2013 and was not expected to survive more than a few months. He promptly moved from D.C. to his dad's Williamsburg home and spent his final 19 months trying to beat the cancer. He endured two courses of chemotherapy (12 sessions each) and clinical trials. The final session was four months ago. He was optimistic and maintained a positive attitude. Steve enjoyed many activities last year, including trips to beaches and family in Florida and California. He spent many hours on roller coasters, metal detector treasure hunts, target shooting, cookouts, motorcycle adventures, and using electronic gadgets. Steve was proud of being a good worker, reliable, and self-sufficient. He read books and newspapers daily, and was a savvy shopper. He and his dad watched all the Florida State football games on TV and attended several W&M home games. His favorite pastimes involved his Chevy Tahoe, the 2014 Honda 250, and Suzuki 400 dirt bikes and his iPhone6. Survivors include his dad Dwight Dansby & wife Cyndie, sisters Catherine & Jen, brothers Ryan, Jonathan & Scott, nieces & nephews.

Steve was a strong individual with a true love of life. I didn't know him well but always enjoyed being in his company. He was so lucky to have such a supportive family who loved him and let him know. I hope the family can find the peace that Steve now has.

I am sorry for your loss. Steve was a great friend to me at Lafayette High School. I lost touch over the years but I can still remember Steve, Kevin and i riding around Williamsburg in my old GTO. He was great man and even better friend. I will always cherish his friendship.
