Alma Lydia Flores

Mercedes - Alma Lydia Flores, 80 was called home by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 1, 2024. Alma was born in Bishop, TX to Jose E. and Angelita B. Gonzalez. She was a lifetime resident of Mercedes, TX. Alma worked for 20 years at Lake Delta Citrus Packing Company in the box department. Thereafter, she became a child caregiver until she retired at the age of 78. She enjoyed calling her family and friends daily and watching telenovelas. Alma was very creative and artistic; she loved to decorate for the holidays and was also known for her ability to draw. On Good Friday, Alma made a full traditional meal and decorated Easter Eggs for her family. Most importantly, she was a loving, caring, and giving person who prayed for her immediate, extended family and friends daily. Alma left an indelible mark on the lives of those who crossed her path, she will be missed dearly.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Gil and Antonia Flores; brothers, Jose B. Gonzalez, Alfredo (Lazara+) Barrera and Ismael "Mike" Gonzalez.

Alma married the love of her life, Umberto Flores, Sr. in 1967. They were blessed with two children, Umberto Flores, Jr. and Leticia Ann Flores. She is also survived by her brothers, Joe (Janie+) Gonzales, David (Alma) Gonzalez, and Raul (Gloria) Barrera, sisters, Mary (Jose+) Vargas, and Dianna (Marcos, Jr.) Tovar, and sister-in-law, Gloria (Ismael+) Gonzalez, numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm at Garcia & Trevino Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Ebony Grove Cemetery in Mercedes, TX.

Serving as Pallbearers will be John M. Garza, Jaime Gonzales, Jorge Gonzales, Guadalupe Gutierrez, Jr., Andy Pena, Desi Silva, Marcos Tovar, Jr., and Israel Vega.

Honorary Pallbearers are Millicent, A. J., Jackie, Kristen, Matthew, Lolo, Jenna, Lexi, Kiki, R. J., Yazzie, Ysela, Bella, Quini, Lena, Jorge, Bruce, Brianna, Natalia, Justin, Leylah, Lacie, Baby Dez, Avery, Aleeyah, Sean, Aiden, Trae, Marcos, Brandon, Joseph, and Dylan.
