Benito Canales Obituary

San Benito, Texas - Benito Canales passed quietly surrounded by family and loved ones on Saturday March 9, 2024. He was born to the late Juanita Guerrero and Jorge Canales, Sr on December 19, 1931 in San Benito, Texas.

Benito joined the United States Air Force upon turning 18 years of age where he was a Special Police Lieutenant. He joined the Department of Defense at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico with 42 years of service.

Upon retirement, Benito, fondly known as Benny to his friends and family, moved to San Benito, Texas to make his home among his loved ones, family, and friends. Among Benny's favorite pastimes were fishing with his son Raymond, listening to "la musica de conjunto", enjoying Raymond's delicious BBQ and most especially would spend hours sitting and chatting with family and friends about the good ole days, stories that brought warmth and laughter to our hearts. Benny will be remembered as never resisting telling a good joke, a great story and most of all a stunning surprising punch line and a good hearty laugh to boot!

Benny attended St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas and, when possible, The Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle in San Juan Texas.

Benito is preceded in death by his father, Jorge Canales, Sr, his mother Juanita Guerrero, his first wife, Juanita Canales, his daughter Janie Canales, his brother Gilberto Canales, Sr, his sisters Irma Canales Garcia and Elva Canales Benavides.

Benny, loving husband, father and grandfather is survived by his wife Blanca Norma Canales, his children Raymond Canales, Loretta Castro and Carla Castro.

Surviving grandchildren include Kayla Rae Canales, Darin I. Frasier, Raymond Canales, Jr., Jace Ryan Canales, Ivan James Canales, Gavin Ray Canales, Karlita Galvan, Stephanie Galvan, Loretta Garcia and Jose Garcia.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Benny's caregivers Pily Coronado, Marisela Melchor, Liz Beltran, and Mark Ortiz of Calidad Home Health Care.

The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday March 15, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Following the Mass, Benito will be laid to rest at Mont Meta Memorial Park.

Privileged to be pallbearers are Raymond Canales, Darin I. Frasier, Ivan James Canales, Rick Rodriguez, Priscilla Garcia, and Raul Garza. Honorary pallbearers include Raymond Canales, Jr., Jace Ryan Canales and Gavin Ray Canales.
