Ester R. Serna

1926 - 2018

Primera - Ester Rocha Serna, 92, joined the lord peacefully on February 8, 2018 at the Retama Nursing Home in Harlingen, Texas. She was born on January 10, 1926 in San Benito, Texas to Antonio Rocha and Maria (Lucio) Rocha. Ester was a jack of all trades working many seasonal jobs to finally finishing up her work life as a bus driver for Harlingen CISD. After her retirement, Ester pursued her dream of graduating High School (GED). After much work, Ester received her GED from TSTI in Harlingen. Ester remained retired and became the proud owner of Art's Shop N Go in Primera, Texas alongside her husband, Arturo Rodriguez Serna. She operated and maintained her business for 10 years until she became fully retired. Ester loved to do word puzzles, read the newspaper, and play Chalupa alongside her sisters and nieces. Throughout Ester's life, Ester was a proud supporter of the Harlingen Cardinals. She attended many games and remained a loyal fan. Ester is survived by her daughter, Adelina (Nina) Serna Villafranca; her sons, Arturo (Talin) Serna, Jr. (Juanita Garcia Serna), Antonio (Tony) Rocha Serna (Juanita Serna), and Pablo (Paul) Rocha Serna. Ester had 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her father, Antonio Rocha; mother, Maria (Lucio) Rocha; her brothers, Pedro Rocha, Alfonso (Poncho) Rocha, Juan Rocha, Toribio (Morris) Rocha, and Antonio Rocha; her sisters, Clara (Rocha) Gonzalez, Sara (Rocha) Perez, Virginia (Rocha) Gonzalez, Jesusa Rocha, and daughter, Alejandra (ChaCha) Serna Estrada. The family would like to give a very special thanks to the nurses and CNAs of the west wing of the Retama Nursing Home for all their help and support. Ester's viewing will be held at Trinity Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 4PM to 9PM, with a Christian service at 7PM. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10AM. Burial will be held at Harlingen Combes Memorial Cemetery located at 20969 Sid Jones Rd, Harlingen, Texas immediately after funeral services. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Pedro Serna, Jerome Donny Serna, Alexester Serna, TJ Serna, Arturo Serna IV, Andrew Serna, and Eduardo Salceda.
