Gary Bryan Obituary

Gary W. Bryan
HARLINGEN,TX.-
Gary W. Bryan 59, of Harlingen was born on December 27th, 1950 in Sinton, TX, and went home to Heaven where he reunited with his loving parents Roy and Evelyn Bryan and his beloved Dougie on February 5, 2010.
He graduated from W.B. Ray in 1969 and recently attended his 40th high school reunion. His life-long hobbies were baseball, fishing, and working on muscle cars. Late in life, he found his greatest joy traveling with his wife, and spending time with his family and friends.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved the Lord and looked for opportunities to bring others to Christ.
At times he might fish 7 days a week, and if the season was right, he would fish for redfish by day and gig flounder by night. Gary grew up with baseball and it was a part of his heart. In 1965, he played in the Pony League World Series in Long Beach, California. He enjoyed coaching and preparing future baseball players, particularly his son Kaleb, whom he later watched play for the Texas State High School Championship. He truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He would often drive to Corpus from the Valley, just to visit for a few hours, and then drive home. He was a hero to his daughter and son, and he will be truly missed.
Gary is preceded in death by his son Gary Douglas Bryan and his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years; Alma Bryan of Harlingen; his daughter, Sunny Dae (Rick) Folmar of Corpus Christi and son; Gary Kaleb Bryan of Harlingen; 3 grandchildren; Nathan, Abby and Katie Folmar; a brother, Roy (Fae) Bryan and sister, Jan (Danny) Geyer.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 7, 2010 from 5-9pm with family present from 6-8pm at the Rudy Garza Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 with a chapel service at 10:00am at the Rudy Garza Chapel of Peace with Pastor Wade Hood officiating and interment will be at the Seaside Cemetery in Corpus Christi at 4pm.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rudy Garza Funeral Home of Harlingen.

Kaleb,
Your fathers words and actions will have more positive impact than you will ever know. I still think about him weekly, mostly when I'm at church on Sundays or thinking about my own dad( Tim ). I feel blessed for having known him.

It has been 3 years since his death. The fire that burns inside me of motivation, inspiration, and positive energy I know only comes through God and the everlasting spirit of my father that had 59 great years to make his impact.

In the early 1990’s my teenage son, Ben, said to me, “Dad, you need to meet my Rio Hondo Sunday School teacher, Gary Bryan. He’s a cool dude and he loves to fish almost as much as you.” We drove over to Gary and Alma’s home in San Benito and I met Gary. Since that day, Gary’s name has appeared hundreds of times in a log I keep of all my fishing and hunting trips. Gary became one of my very best friends. He and I effortlessly shared our successes and our failures. We each edified the other. So, as the words to the Toby Keith song, I’m Crying for Me, go, “play it sweet in heaven, I’m gonna miss you my friend”.

Kaleb and Alma, I am very sorry on your loss of a great man. I had the opportunity of meeting Gary (and his family) through baseball in the summer of 07 when he and Carl Wells asked my son Adam to play on the Raptors and asked me to help coach. I really enjoyed the time with Gary and his family during that summer. We had a great run. I enjoyed seeing Gary and his enthusiasm for the game and love and joy of watching Kaleb playing baseball. He will be missed but not forgotten.
Sincerely,

Bryan Turner

Gary was a good friend. You could always count on him to be your "back up".
Gary was always fun to be around. I enjoyed our visit so much at our 40th HS reunion and it was an honor to meet Alma.
My condolences to the family. May God bless you.

God bless you in your time of grieving. I knew Gary from back in the 70's at 18th St Baptist Church. Spent many hours at his home and knew Dougie before his too early death. I know Gary carried a heavy load from that. I rejoice with you that he is now with his Lord, his sweet, godly mother and Dougie.

My condolences to the Bryan family. I've know Gary since 1989 when I started working with him at the Rainbo Baking Company. I enjoyed talking about muscle cars and baseball through the years. I surely will miss him as someone to talk too. My deepest thoughts to Sunny, Kaleb and Alma.

My husband and I had a chance to get to know Gary while my husband (Coach Ruiz) coached Kaleb during his high school years at Harlingen South. I remember days when I had a chance to make a few of there practices and Gary was always there, sitting, watching, as his son whom he was so proud of practiced. I didn't know anyone at the time since we were new to the valley but Gary always made me feel like part of the Hawks family. We'd sit there and watched as the guys practiced as he looked upon his son with such great pride. He and his wife were amazing to be around. They are one of the few people I have ever been around and just felt at peace. Gary was an amazing person and loved his family dearly. He will be greatly missed. Alma, you are in are prayers and may God grant you the peace in your heart that you and your husband so effortlessly made others feel. Kaleb, we are so sorry for your loss. Know that your dad was so very proud of you. God Bless you and your family through this difficult time.
