Lidia Longoria Obituary

San Benito - Lidia Lucia Suarez Longoria, 92, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, in San Benito, Texas. She was born on September 16, 1933, in Brownsville, Texas, to Guadalupe and Maria de Jesus Suarez.

Lidia dedicated 25 years of her professional life to Longoria Construction, where she worked alongside her beloved husband, Abel Longoria Sr., before her retirement. In addition to her successful career, Lidia devoted over 45 years as the Fundraising Chair at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, later continuing her efforts at St. Vincent de Paul Mission following her relocation to Lozano, Texas, in 1998. This past July, Lidia and her husband celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, a testament to their enduring love.

In her free time, Lidia found joy in gardening, cooking for her family, caring for her ranch and cattle, and traveling, particularly to her favorite destination, Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Alberto Suarez, Abel Suarez, and Maria Magdalena Becerra; and her son, Abel Longoria Jr.

Lidia is survived by her devoted husband, Abel Longoria Sr.; daughter: Avelina Johnston (Tony), daughter: Lily Flores (Robert), daughter-in-law: Olga Longoria (the late Abel Longoria Jr.), son: Leonel Longoria (Betty), son: Valerio Longoria (Dora), son: Romeo Longoria (Odelia), son: Joel Longoria, son: Javier Longoria, and daughter: Micky Cortez (Sammy). Additionally, she is survived by 25 grandchildren, Marissa Woolf, Monica Mitchel, Melinda Johnston, Robert Flores Jr., Ryan Flores, Ronnie Flores, Abel Longoria Jr., Noey Longoria, Fred Longoria, Olga Alicia Longoria, Melissa Harrod, Lydia Gutierrez, Leonel Longoria Jr., Valerio Longoria Jr., Erik Longoria, Celina Rangel, Samantha Longoria, Romeo David Longoria, Cassandra Longoria, Joel Longoria Jr., Jesse Longoria, Adrian Longoria, Aaron Longoria, Orley Cortez, and Ashley Cortez, 49 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

The family expresses their gratitude to Lidia's special caregivers and the exceptional staff at Mount Sinai Hospice for their compassionate support.

The Longoria family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home with a recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, with services concluding there.

Pallbearers honored to serve include Orley Cortez, Romeo David Longoria, Robert Flores Jr., Ryan Flores, Valerio Longoria Jr., Eric Longoria, Ronnie Flores, and Abel Longoria III. Honorary pallbearers are Romeo Longoria, Valerio Longoria, Joel Longoria, Javier Longoria, and Leonel Longoria.
