Oladayo Sanusi Obituary

Harlingen, Texas - Dr. Oladayo A. Sanusi, age 55, passed peacefully away on February 28, 2025, in Harlingen, Texas.

Dr. Sanusi was born and raised Catholic in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1970. He pursued his passion for medicine, becoming a dedicated and skilled physician. In 1996, he immigrated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York, where he completed his residency and specialized in nephrology. His career flourished when he moved to Harlingen, Texas, in 2005, where his expertise, compassion, and commitment to patient care left a lasting impact on the Rio Grande Valley. He was honored as Physician of the Year by Valley Baptist Medical Center in 2010, among many accolades.

Dr. Sanusi was more than a physician-he was a healer, mentor, and friend. He was known not only for his medical excellence but for his deep humanity, ability to listen, infectious laughter, and genuine care for his patients and community. His generosity and kindness extended beyond the hospital walls, touching the lives of many.

He was preceded in death by both parents. Dr. Sanusi leaves behind his loving family to cherish his loving memory: his son William, daughter Sarah, wife Cherry, sisters, brothers, nieces, and nephews.

A brilliant writer and poet, a compassionate doctor, and an irreplaceable presence-Dr. Sanusi's passing is a profound loss to all who knew him. An icon is gone and gone too soon.

The Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a prayer of the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, La Feria, TX. The Repass will be held at D' Fabulous Pool & Event Center (1201 E. New Hampshire, Harlingen, TX).

What a shock. He was always kind, with a wit and a celebration of life. Many people wanted to be with him. I witnessed his generosity many times. May we celebrate as he did and keep the memory of the love of our neighbor all the days of our lives. We shared life from 2009 to 2012 when I moved to South Dakota.

Dr. Sanusi was one of the finest men and doctors I have ever met. He took wonderful care of my Mom and Dad in the final years, even did house calls when it became too difficult for them to leave home. When my Mom was in hospice care, he came by the day before she passed to hold her hand and tell her goodbye. She looked at him and said "Dr. Sanusi you are so beautiful. My angels are coming for me." He assured her that the angels were indeed waiting for her and gave her such peace. We will never forget his kindness and know that his angels came for him too. May you rest in peace. I feel blessed to have known and worked with Dr. Sanusi. He always did the right thing by his patients. A picture he painted hangs in my home and his books are on my shelf. Mementos of a creative and dynamic gentleman. Condolences to his family.
