Ramiro Gonzalez Obituary

San Benito - Ramiro Gonzalez, 76, of San Benito passed away peacefully surrounded by Family and Friends on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Ramiro, who many knew as Mr. G, was born in San Benito, one of twelve children to Francisco and Amada Gonzalez. His parents instilled in him the value of faith, honesty and a strong work ethic. He used those traits to shape a rewarding business career and a fulfilling life filled with purpose. After graduating from Los Fresnos High School in 1962, he earned his welding certification from Del Mar College and he worked as a welder for Brown and Root in Brownsville, TX for 18 years.

He married Elizabeth, his loving wife of 50 years, and together they brought the vision of Mr. G's Fireworks, Mr. G's Sno-Wiz and R&R Paving to life. With his faith, family and strong work ethic, everything he envisioned prospered. Mr. G was able to illuminate the sky often, pave the way and keep everyone cool year round with a snow cone or shakeup. Mr. G was always surrounded by family. He built his businesses with his family at his side. Often he was asking his children and grandchildren to run an errand with him, make snow cones for customers, stock the shelves at the firework stand, or keep him company as he drove. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and they were often found laughing at his jokes and learning his secret recipes.

On any given day he could be found at Mr.G's Sno-Wiz greeting customers and offering samples of his new creations. Mr. G befriended everyone he met, loved visiting with customers and hearing all the latest happenings. When he was not there, he could be found at one of his construction sites operating machinery or teaching someone how to operate equipment. Mr. G lived an extraordinary life full of many successful business ventures, all of which he enjoyed. Above all else, he was passionate about his work, his family and his Lord.

On May 10, 2017, Mr. G was honored by both the Texas House and Texas Senate with a Resolution recognizing him for his entrepreneurial success and many contributions to the Rio Grande Valley. He was a humble man who often gave to those in need with no expectation of recognition or anything in return. His brilliance, humor and fun nature will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth; his son and three daughters, Cynthia Gonzalez (Ricardo), Diana Gonzalez-Galindo, Ramiro Gonzalez Jr. (Nadine) and Carmen Gonzalez-Cruz (Hector.) He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Stephen, Mark, Caitlan, Ramiro, Zachary, Cassandra and Nathanial. He is also survived by a special brother-in-law Danny Gonzales (Sylvia) who he helped raise, as well as numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson Aiden Isaiah Galindo and granddaughter Ashley Nicole Cruz.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Cross Church in San Benito from 4:00-7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Cross Church at 10:00 am followed by a burial service at Mont Meta Memorial Park

Honored to be his pallbearers are Hector Cruz, Zachary Cruz, Stephen M. Galindo II, Danny Gonzales, Mathew Gonzalez, Mark Gonzalez, Ricardo Gonzalez and Ramiro Gonzalez III. Ramiro "Primo" was the real deal and as good as they come in this world. I had the privilege of being born into the huge Gonzalez clan on my grandmother's side, Maria Gonzalez Limón. For many years my family and I worked Gonzalez family cotton fields all over the valley and we too, helped in the summer and winter firework sales and loved when he would ask me to join him in running errands and would often make hot chocolate runs to iHop for the stand workers. When I worked at San Benito Bank & Trust, I was honored to work with him and his loan officers as the Mr. G businesses were in their infancy. Although, I didn't see him often after moving to the Dallas area in the late 80's, he and Elizabeth would welcome me and my new family with open arms -- even during the crazy peak seasons. Thank you for the wonderful memories I have of you and for always making me laugh. I like to think some of you rubbed off on me. May your family be comforted by your legacy and know that your kindness touched everyone who knew you. Watch over me, "primo."

Mr G was a good friend of mine for many years. I always admired his wisdom and his dedication to his family and to hard work. He was a dreamer and a man of conviction to God and family.
