Ricardo Mares

1938 - 2025

Lyford - It is with great sadness that the immediate family wishes to announce the passing of a unique individual, Ricardo Mares, 87, from Santa Monica, Texas. He departed for eternal rest on August 28, 2025, after a brief illness.

Ricardo was born on July 4, 1938, in Santa Monica, Texas, to Guadalupe and Encarnacion Mares, which he always announced, "everybody celebrates my birthdays with fireworks!"

He attended school in Lyford, Texas and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1957 and reenlisted till his honorable discharge in 1964. During his enlistment in 1961, he married Adelina Cavazos. He then began his career in car sales with Ferguson Motors, Bogus Ford in Harlingen, TX and Haynes in Raymondville, Texas. Those who knew him knew that if you ask or were in need, he would give his last nickel, even if it meant he would suffer. He'd say, "Better him than you."

Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Encarnacion Mares and one sister Andrea Valdez.

He is survived by 2 sons, Bodie (Rosie) Mares and Ricardo Mares; 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; and 1 brother, Rodolfo Mares.
