When we moved from the Netherlands to Englewood, we never could have imagined how blessed we would be to meet Jim Hart and his dog Hunter as a puppy. Through Jim, the son of Chris, we soon came to know Chris herself. From the very first moment, the connection felt warm and familiar - as if we had found family far from home.
We shared pieces of our heritage with her, including salty Dutch herring, and lovingly prepared traditional German dishes like schnitzel and potato salad for her to taste and judge. We cherished listening to her stories and memories of Germany and Europe, which brought the past vividly to life.
For Meggie, she became a kind of grandmother - something Meggie had missed for many years - and that bond brought great comfort and joy to us all. Her mind remained remarkably clear until the very end. We are deeply grateful that we were able to spend time with her just two weeks before her passing, sharing one last salty herring and a meaningful, gentle conversation.
We will miss her warmth dearly, but we will always remember her as a truly beautiful soul. We feel profoundly privileged to have known her and to have shared part of our lives with her. Chris will be deeply missed. In our memories we carry you.
