Dorthy Kardon

On Saturday July 1, 2023 Dorothy Kardon (88) passed away peacefully at her place of residence in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Born December 7th, 1934 to Rose and John Krell in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Dorothy was an only child. She was raised in Pittsburgh by her mother and met her husband; Philip Kardon, while working in a hosiery shop near Kardon's Pharmacy. Dorothy and Phil were married on October 3, 1954. While not previously known to be adventurous, after Phil was deployed to Cuba, Dorothy shipped a trailer to the naval base and then surprised everyone when she showed up to move in with her new husband.

Dorothy and Phil spent most of their 48 years of marriage in Altoona Pennsylvania. They were active members of the Agudath Achim synagogue where Dorothy was a member of the Sisterhood. Dorothy and Phil raised their three children (Mark, Sheila and Adrienne) in Altoona. Dorothy took great pride in her children and home, and while she occasionally worked in retail roles, she was a devoted mother and her family always came first. She stressed the importance of family dinner and every holiday was beautifully celebrated with family, friends and delicious food. Her mandel bread will be missed.

Dorothy enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. Many Kardon family memories were created on family summer vacations and outings in the family RV where she was often playing board games and card games with the kids. Dorothy loved going out for a nice dinner and live entertainment. She particularly loved going to Broadway shows in New York.

Dorothy is survived by her three children Mark Kardon (Ellen Hirsh-Kardon) of Chicago, Sheila Rains (Bart Rains) of North Port Florida, and Adrienne Kardon Crowther (John Crowther) of Belmont California; her six grandchildren Savanna Rains, Harrison Rains, Kennedy Rains, Rachel Kardon, Paige Crowther, and Samantha Crowther and her great granddaughter, Abriella Rains.

Graveside Service & Interment were held at B'Nai Israel Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
