Frank Cavaliere Obituary

Frank Cavaliere of Venice, Florida passed on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018 at Tidewell Hospice.

He was born on Nov. 28, 1922 in New York city to Giovannina Battaglia and Emanuel Cavalieri who emigrated from Sicily to the U.S.

Frank was married for 68 years to Ilse Cavaliere who lovingly cared for him during his illness.

He graduated from the Manhattan high school of aviation trades, where he studied to be an airplane mechanic. Frank proudly served his country in the Army/Air Corps during World War II, from 1943-1946 in the Pacific.

In 1950, he married Ilse Lewin in New York city. They had two daughters, Evelyn and Nancy.

While working full time, he earned a degree in business administration from Adelphi University, under the GI bill.

Frank worked for the Defense Department as a management analyst and contract negotiator.

Following his retirement, he and Ilse moved to Venice, Florida from Northport, Long Island, New York. He loved living in Venice, and greatly enjoyed the warm Gulf water, his activities, and their wonderful friends. He was a dedicated SHINE volunteer for many years at the Senior Friendship Center for which he was recognized and much appreciated.

Frank was a very enthusiastic lifelong learner who enjoyed Italian language classes, playing music, woodcarving, painting, photography, card playing and especially folk dancing with dear friends.

He loved traveling in Italy where he visited the birthplace of his parents in Sicily. He and Ilse looked forward to their annual trips to J.C. Campbell folk school in North Carolina as well as wonderful Elderhostel trips.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Evie (Alan) Dewar of Cape Cod, and Nancy (Chris) Andrews of Bronx, New York; also, his beloved grandchildren, Jennifer Dewar (Jason Yi) of St. Louis, Missouri and Christopher (Margaret Erickson) of Seattle, Washington; and his treasured great-granddaughter, Averill Yi of St. Louis, Missouri; and many adored nieces and nephews also survive him.

Truly a member of the "Greatest Generation," Frank will be remembered for his great love for his family and friends, curiosity, hard work, and determination.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3, at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rd 72, Sarasota, FL
