Alex J. Mihalovits, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, due to complications of diabetes. He was 75.
Alex was born in Chicago, Ill., to George and Helen Mihalovits on Dec. 14, 1935, and was the second youngest of 10 siblings. Later he moved with his family to Crown Point, Ind., and after high school moved to California when he was 18. He worked as a lab instructor at California State University Northridge and retired after 25 years. Alex was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9410 and was an active parishioner of St. Peter Claver Parish in Simi Valley. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his prodigious and abundant fruit trees, rose bushes and vegetable gardens. He was an avid reader and enjoyed detective dramas, science fiction, classic television and movies.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Martha Mihalovits; his daughters, Helen, Louise and Martha; his son-in-law, Jay; and his two granddaughters, Liana and Emilia.
A visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at the Reardon Simi Valley Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, at the St. Peter Claver Church in Simi Valley, followed by burial at the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
