Bart May Obituary

Bart May

Canoga Park, CA

Barth "Bart" Allen May. On the morning of October 15th, 2015, Bart passed away due to pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 63 years old.

Bart was born on November 13, 1951 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was the first child of Barth Eugene May and Barbara Jean Gurd.

Bart first moved to California in 1961. As a young child Bart was an enthusiastic rock collector, demonstrating his love of nature. He enjoyed hiking and climbed to the summit of Mt. Whitney seven times. He loved snow skiing, trips to Lake Havasu and Cabo, and exploring Hungary, Austria and Italy.

Bart restored a 1976 MG Midget which won multiple awards. He enjoyed target shooting and was an avid football fan. He loved spending time with family and friends, whether it was attending his nephews' football games, casual weekends on the patio, smoking cigars or watching NCIS with his brother. Bart cherished anytime spent with his grandchildren, especially their trip to Tahoe. And he did all this while wearing his Tommy Bahama shirts.

Bart was a prominent member of the building community and property development industry in Southern California for 30 years. He had the privilege of working with the best builders and developers in the business. Bart was extremely proud of every single project he worked on. It didn't matter to him if it was large or small or at what level he was involved. Bart enjoyed it all, as long as the meetings were short and the project trailer was air conditioned.

Bart is preceded in death by his parents. Bart is survived by his wife, Shasta May, his son Bart May and wife (Ahnjayla), his daughter Michele May and husband (Chris), youngest daughter Tara May, and his grandchildren, Chandler May and Alyssa May. Other loved ones left to endure his loss are his brother Mark May and wife (Teri) and his sister Pamela Lowry and fianc? (James), along with 16 nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends and extended family that loved him dearly.

Pancreatic cancer took a remarkable man from a remarkable family in less than 11 weeks.

Services will be held at 10:00am, October 30th, at the Calvary Community Church, 5495 Via Rocas, Westlake Village, CA 91362.

All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bart's life.

Memorial donations made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (877-272-6226) may give other families more time with loved ones.

God Bless you Bart.
During one of your major projects that we were fortunate to be able to work together on, you had a challenging issue and told us to make it happen.
This became our company motto. " We Make It Happen "

My heartfelt condolences to the May family. I did not know Bart very well. I gave him a ride home from high school a couple of times and had Bart in some of my classes. What I do know about Bart is that he was a genuine person, kind and possessed a big heart. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all, but rest assured that he is with our Lord in Heaven and is free of any pain and sickness.
