Mr. Bernard Andrew Donlon died peacefully at the age of 84, on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011.
He was born July 5, 1927, in Killashee, County Longford, Ireland. He honed his plastering skills while working as an apprentice in London, England, repairing the ceilings of Westminster Abby. He later returned to Ireland to marry the love of his life, Kathleen, and together they moved to North Bay Ontario, Canada. He moved his family to Oxnard in 1960. Bernard worked for 25 years in the Engineering Department at St. John's Hospital. He was a well-known plasterer and many of his artistic ceilings can still be seen in homes around Oxnard. Bernard's greatest passion was the love he felt for his family and friends.
Along with his wife Kathleen, he enjoyed hosting special family occasions and holiday gatherings year after year. He enjoyed traveling; with many memorable trips to Ireland, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska and Solvang. Bernard was very proud of his Irish heritage. He loved Irish dancing, Celtic music and in the 1970s he helped construct the St. Patrick statue for Oxnard's' former St. Patrick's Day Parade. Bernard was also a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus, Oxnard 750.
He was preceded in death by Kathleen, his wife of 54 years. He is survived by his sons, Pat Donlon (Auggy), Joe Donlon (Anne), Sean Donlon (Kathleen), and daughters, Catherine Donlon- Montoya and Lisa Donlon. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Jeremy, Shanna, Bridgette, Megan, Shelby, Mary, Joanne, and Julia; and one great-grandchild, Anthony.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29, at Santa Clara Church in Oxnard. The family is thankful for the excellent care he received at the end of his life and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of Ventura County.

Donlon Clan, My thoughts and prayers are with your family , so very sorry to hear of your dads passing. I remember how tickled he was when I trimmed the tree in your backyard. He made such a big deal out of it. Also, when My first child was born and St Johns didn't have a room ready, he grabbed up a crew of guys and emptied out one of the new birthing rooms for us, What a great guy your dad was. He will be truly missed by many. Hes with Kathleen now, and with that brilliant smile of his is lighting up heaven I'm sure
