Caroline Pfeiffer Obituary

San Diego, CA

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt and dear friend, Caroline Pfeiffer on June 4th in San Diego.

Carol was born in Oxnard on July 30, 1946 to Ralph and Mary Flores. She attended Oxnard High School, graduated from CSU Long Beach in 1968 and began her long career in Social Work. Moving to San Diego as an Eligibility Worker, she obtained her Master's Degree from SDSU and was promoted to Social Worker. Carol continued to rise through the ranks with the County of San Diego's Department of Social Services working in Children's Services, eventually becoming the Assistant Deputy Director of the Health and Human Services Agency responsible for 676 employees. She was also a founder of the SD County Latino Association and the SD Chapter of the Latino Social Services Network. She retired in 2004. She and LaRue were married on Valentine's Day in 2005.

Carol was a gourmet cook and a master baker and chocolatier, gifting her handmade truffles every Easter and Christmas and providing truffle favors for each of her nieces', nephews', and eventually great nieces and great nephews' weddings and quinceneras. But above all, Carol was a talented artist. Her many beautiful paintings, seasonal decorations and handmade quilts adorn her family's homes and have become family heirlooms. They are constant reminders of her amazing talent and of her love for us all.

Each summer, Carol welcomed her nieces and nephews for a weeklong stay where they enjoyed the many attractions San Diego had to offer. These stays at "Camp Carol" provided many treasured childhood memories.

Preceded in death by her mother Mary Flores and sister Irene Miller, Carol is survived by husband LaRue Pfeiffer, father Ralph Flores, sister Rosie Torres (Jim) and brother Bob Flores (Tillie Petersen) as well as many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who will miss her dearly.

A rosary will be held on Monday, July 18 at 9:30 am at the Santa Clara Chapel, El Rio, mass at 10:00 with internment following at Santa Clara Cemetery. A celebration of life reception will follow at Roger Jones Community Center, 2864 Jourdan St., El Rio.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Komen for the Cure.

What a wonderful woman...always a joy to be around. I will miss seeing you my friend on my visits to my second home, painting, laughing, sharing your delicious treats and marvelling over your latest project. I will treasure my memories of our times shared, think of you often as I look at the witch you made for me which sits on my bedside table, and mourn the loss of a beautiful person. Your wings may have been ready but our hearts weren't. Rest easy friend free of these mortal burdens until we meet again
