Charles D Nielsen

Camarillo, CA

"A Long and Joyful Life" Charles D. Nielsen, age 85, passed away of natural causes on Dec. 2 at his home in Henderson, Nevada. He was born in Hope Township to Holger and Kathryn (Overton) Nielsen.

His early years were spent farming near Lake Benton, then Project Engineer and Designer of Waste Water and Reclamation facilities in Colorado and California, where he held multiple certifications. He retired as Superintendent of the Waste Water Reclamation Plant in Camarillo, California. He relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1997 and continued his joy of traveling, researching genealogy and studying Danish and Viking history.

Charles is remembered for his positive, forward looking ability and encouragement to all generations. He reminded others to set goals, stay ahead of the game, negotiate and recover from mistakes.

He is survived by daughters Dawn (Jim) Gregorio of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carol (Alan) Lezniewicz of Henderson, Nevada, and son Dan (Leanne) Nielsen of Camarillo, California; five grandchildren Sean (Jennifer) Goldwasser of Kansas City, Kansas, Joe Goldwasser of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brent (Amanda) Lezniewicz of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kyle Nielsen of Thousand Oaks, California, and Brittany Nielsen of Camarillo, California; six great-grandchildren; nephews Don Larson of Minneapolis and David (Carol) Larson of Albert Lea; niece Diane (Gordy) Moeller of Glenwood; and cousins Lillian Miller of Hemet, California and Norman (Leona) Mikkelsen of Tyler.

Charles was predeceased by his father Holger Nielsen, mother Kathryn (Overton) Nielsen, wife Janice (Larson) Nielsen in 2009 and cousin Kiar Nielsen in 2014.

Charles, who was known for saying "Life is good," was laid to rest next to Janice in the Garden of Prayer, Davis Memorial Park, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, Nevada. Donations may be made to your place of worship. A family eulogy in his memory is planned for January.
