Dallas was born in Jacksonville, Illinois on May 10, 1929 and passed away after a short illness on June 1, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years Carol, his son Edward, and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons Larry of Buckeye, AZ, Ronald of Merced, CA, Dennis of Reno, NV, and his daughters Chyrll Mallernee of Vincennes, IN, and Penni (Mallernee) Hasty, Shafter, CA, as well as 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was the youngest of 11 children and the last surviving of his brothers and sisters.
Dallas lived an interesting life having left home at the age of 10, traveling across the country. He served in the Army Air Corps where he learned stenography. Dallas went on to become a well-known and respected court reporter retiring from Ventura County in 1976. He went on to become a top-selling insurance agent for Prudential by caring about people. He retired in 1990.
During his retirement he followed his passion for genealogy and was able to trace his family roots back to the 1100's. Dallas moved to Bakersfield, CA in 2003 with his wife, Carol, who died in 2004. He remained in Bakersfield until his death. Dallas was a loving husband who was extremely proud of his family.
He had a strong faith in the Lord that kept his outlook positive throughout his life. His goal in his retirement years was to get at least three people a day to smile or laugh. His kindness and generosity will be dearly missed.
A graveside service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd., Bakersfield, CA 93305. Further information is available from Greenlawn at 661-324-9701.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in honor of Dallas.

I only this week learned of Dallas' passing and am saddened by the news. He and I were cousins through the Murphy family of Lovington, Illinois, both of us being descended from Daniel Murphy and Eliza Ann Varner. We corresponded and shared family history research for many years. If anyone would care to contact me, I am at [email protected]. The knowledge that Dallas was such a good and fulfilled man will be consolation to his family and friends.

I miss you so much Dad. I know you're in a better place and that tears are for the living. I just wish I could still pick up the phone, or stop by and see you. I love you! Kiss Mom for me. I know God prepared a special place for you as he blessed me with a wonderful earthly father. I'll always be grateful.
